You're all quite right of course. I just saw a 321 at a good price and got all excited. 馃檨 I need you guys to keep me on the straight and narrow. The irony is, of course, that if it wasn't for discovering this forum I wouldn't even know what a 321 was. For 20 years I was perfectly happy with a solitary Seamaster diver and the occasional upgrade. The fact that I now lust over an endless succession of watches that I don't need is entirely your fault. 馃槈

I understand your frustration or confusion. When doing my "daily routine" check or simply look around what the market offers, I find mostly
- overpriced for the condition
- overpriced due to the dealer offering it
- "condition" I don't want to buy at any price
- dishonest descriptions (so-called "white lies") with obvious replacement parts, e.g. a '69 with a most recent non-step dial
- last but not least: brutal assemblies from fraudulent "dealers"
...etc.

...but among all of these, every now and then a nice, honest, attractive and sometimes even "reasonable" priced Speedy. Those sell quickly most of the time and the whole, god damned things starts all over again 馃榾

My advice for your first 321 and the related expenses..search here, find a seller you like (and trust), ask questions, judge well, buy here.
Aquire enough knowledge for the future and then - well armed - go out in the wilderness again.

What I love, is that in the OP the seller is described as seemingly reputable.

How does he seem now?

There is no such thing as a cheap 321 if you don't already know them. It's the really knowledgable people who get them cheap, as their knowledge gives them the confidence to fork up $2500 at a garage sale for an original ed white - it happens but it's rare, and it doesn't happen to inexperienced buyers - because by the time you think about it, one of the speedysharks smells the chum and it's gone.

This one doesn't smell of speedychum

If only one could become expert in an instant, like in The Matrix. I'm sure the road to the knowledge shown by the good folks on here has been littered with expensive errors...

it doesn't take *that* much effort @Mozziebite. resources like speedmaster101 and MWO really make a difference. Read MWO cover to cover once or twice and you will start seeing the Matrix for the Frankens.

If I were to take on vintage Speedies as a serious hobby I wouldn't hesitate to buy the MWO, but it's a bit spendy for something which might only be a passing interest.. 馃榾

You will never stop at one. Only time will tell but I'm just going to tell you now, I told you so.

Enjoy the hunt. It's part of the process. Really gratifying.
