Funding terrorism
Not that I advocate buying a fake, but you should be wary about using the "funding terrorism" argument. Because if you go that way, one could remind you that by buying a real watch, you're also funding terrorism - of the state-sponsored variant.

With stuff like this out there I seriously wonder why anyone would buy a new watch from anybody but a factory authorized dealer, they just keep getting better and better.

Genuinely, how good are fakes now? I’ve heard Speedy’s and other chronographs can’t be replicated atm but is this correct? Just makes me wonder in the future if I actually know what I’m really looking at.

Scary, thanks for sharing. What good fakes do is depress the market for the real things.

As usual, no pivots in the jewels of the fake. Obvious tell....

It’s easier for you to tell working on them so frequently. Many people are fooled by these unfortunately. I miss the canal street days where you could tell as soon as you touched it.

Not only that, it doesn’t even have the dot over 90

It’s tell that I have been talking about for quite a while now, and one worth learning, because this goes across brands...

The replica movements are sketchy at best. Asia 7750's suck. Swiss ETA's are hard to find these days in a replica. The Japanese movements seem ok. Case and dials on the expensive variants are very good with some parts interchangeable with the authentic models (dangerous). The best way to tell is a quick glance at the movement.

Buying a fake , intentionally - speaks volumes as to the character of the buyer. So you’re either lying to others or yourself. Or both. Just buy a watch you can afford. Plenty of quality non- Omega watches to sort out and enjoy.

Wow impressive fake. Fakes have been around for years in plenty of luxury items though. I remember as a kid I had a fake Fila jacket! I always felt like I was cheating myself more than other people though. To each their own but I would rather have a genuine samsonite than a fake Louis Vuitton.

The one on the right is the fake. Crown guards is the tell. Its too short on the fake. One thing I've noticed on fake SMP's is that the crown guards are always too short. The same on this one too.

Still an impressive fake nonetheless. But at the end of the day, no matter how good it is on the outside, it's still a fake and it can't beat the real deal.

Thanks for this tip Archer. It is absolute gold.

I tried searching for a good quality fake movement pic to try demonstrate that here in this thread, but they are surprisingly hard to find from reliable sources. I've used a particularly obvious/egregious example from the video:

Fake:

Real:

Also, knowing this won't protect noobs like me from watches with the wrong movement, but only those where a basic movement has been disguised or 'dressed'. In other words the movement underneath the dressing will have visible pivots (presumably).

Anyway it will be important to have a loupe. I'll also continue to buy face to face from reliable sources for the foreseeable.

I am probably too noob to notice the pivots, but what I see is pretty obvious difference in the balance.

Omega

Fake

I have the same watch as shown by the Watchfinder, same reference. Just used fake's serial number with my Metas code and it did not pass.

At first sight this fake looks dangerous, but once one does a basic due diligence- I doubt any collector can be really fooled here.

I know a couple guys who are not hurting for money at all, aka owning two rental properties on the coast here in my area, very nice decent people. We have them over for dinner etc but last year I noticed one was wearing a Rolex. From a distance I just figured it was real since they came over in a Lexus they just bought but nope, they just have a thing where they seek out the best made rep they can find. It’s a hobby to them. They were buying ones that were close to 1,000 usd. I showed them a few from my collection that were half that or less, Hamilton’s, certain omegas etc and I asked why they didn’t put that money into a “real” watch. They just weren’t interested.

It doesn’t make sense to me but as long as all parties know what’s going on what the hell. It’s the people that try to scam others that get me. I’d rather have a vintage timex than a fake on my wrist but whatever, I have seen stranger things.

I wish fakes didn't exist. They make the world a worser place.

If I really wanted something and I couldn't afford it I would simply save money or buy pre-owned.

I wish governments did more to prevent fakes.

I was watching "grand tour" recently where they were in Vietnam, and Jeremy Clarkson was in a bazaar where they had watches piled up. He was wearing a Seamaster and commented that it cost him around 3000 pounds, but here he could buy it for 30. He made it funny, but its really sad for those of us who are real collectors and enthusiasts.

Education like this is crucial.
