Hello Forumers,

There are several reasons why OF is such a great and successful forum.
On the one hand it is the number of resident experts and the great knowledge provided for free.
On the other hand it is the great generosity of some of the members and 2 of them I want to name today.

You might remember the movement/dial combo @smorrisonmd showed in May when he searched a large chronometre case to match with it.

As his search was not successful I reached out to him and asked if he was ready to sell it to me.
He asked for my shipping address. When I wanted to know how much I owed him including shipping charges he did not accept any payment and said he wanted to give something back for the knowledge and information he received from the OF over the years. What a generous gesture!

Now I was lucky to find a housing for the orphaned movement/dial combo. It is a case CO 2637 which - going by ODB - should house a cal 351 though. As we know the Omega data base is not complete by any means, so there might be the possibility that ref 2637 had also cal. 352 inside. For the time being it is a wearable and nice looking solution until I might find a case of ref 2517 or similar - but this means maybe waiting for decades...
For now I only have to find a matching second hand to make it complete

So I want to thank @smorrisonmd also "officially" here on OF and not only privately - he made my day in May.

An another generous member should be mentioned here: @MtV
We had a nice meeting at my home this summer and had endless talkes about watches and were looking through some pieces from my collection...
He recently offered decagonal crowns in the FS section and when I approached him for some information about which references could benefit from these crowns he spontaneously offered to send me 2 of them for free.
What a kind and generous fellow member. Many thanks to you too!
Now I have to dive into my vault to dig out the Connies with the wrong crowns to make them right.

This is one reason why OF is such a great forum and why I enjoy being a member...

Erich

Gives one a bit of hope for humanity at large. Thanks to the two generous and community-minded members, and Erich for bringing it to our attention.

My pleasure Erich, but what are two crowns vs the vast amount of knowledge you’ve shared. So: anytime!

You also left out one important bit of information, depicting me as more generous. I didn’t offer you the crowns for free - I asked for a Kaiserschmarrn, prepared by Mr Chronometer himself, upon my next visit. 😉

I left it out not because I am stingy - I thought who might know "Kaiserschmarrn" on an Aussie-based international watch forum? I am already preparing the dough ::stirthepot::

OF is definetely a great place. Some drama may occure from time to time but a few minutes/days after you read a great thread like this one.

Your Watch looks really promising erich ! Hope you will find this second hand rapidely and enjoy wearing it while looking for the other case/movement you mentioned.

and now I’m aware of a new specialty that was completely unknowned to me : this kaiserschmarrn looks « yummy »

You’re right, of course. The translation is “emporer’s nonsense”. I’m sure that’ll help. 😁

Thanks for sharing, @mac_omega. I'd also like to mention a few.

Indeed, @MtV is Santa Clause in disguise. Along with countless advice he's also given me parts like replacement hands and crowns as freebies. Unlike you, I couldn't offer any knowledge in exchange.

I also like to mention @seekingseaquest who not only helped me acquire a watch in the US but also added a replacement hand out of his stock for free.

In addition, @LesXL gave me his spare flatfoot clover crown as a birthday gift when he learnt that I was looking for one.

And @Rudi99 who surprised me with two original Omega ads from the 40/50s from Brazil. Awesome!

The list would be endless if I counted all members that offered me free advice in private conversations, but I'd like to highlight @MtV , @seekingseaquest , @LesXL , @Rudi99 , @cristos71, @Aludic , @perenowell, @Peemacgee , @omegawatchlover and of course the OP @mac_omega himself.

OF is a great place with a host of generous people!

@MtV hooked me up with a crown as well, but I must admit that I may have received some goods for him in exchange. 😀
