The Westmoreland Kansas Tornado

As I’m sure that many of you have seen on the news, the small town of Westmoreland, Kansas was devastated yesterday by a tornado that killed one person, injured three others, destroyed 22 homes and caused extensive damage to many other homes and businesses. My daughter’s farm is about 8 miles directly south of Westmoreland and she captured these extraordinary images of the tornado as it passed - much too closely - to the border of her property. She said that it formed very quickly and became larger and stronger as it moved north. My sympathies to the residents of Westmoreland. These storms are terrifyingly destructive and I hope that the town will rebuild and fully recover.

I'm happy to hear your daughter is well.

It's spring time in tornado alley. A little to east of me we had tornadoes on Saturday that did quite a bit of damage in Sulphur, OK.

Where I live we were lucky and just caught the edge of the front. We only caught thunderstorms and heavy rain, I believe the nearest tornado in that system was about fifteen miles east of here.

Lots of touchdowns in Iowa a bit west of here but nothing too destructive. Spent a few hours in the basement last weekend. West Omaha had some damage tho, this was a few blocks from my cousins house.

Good Lord, that is terrifying. I grew up with regular hurricanes as a child, but at least those you could prepare for days in advance.
