The Watches of Anthony Bourdain.

This month a new film comes out on the life of chef/author/traveller Anthony Bourdain. Although he never talked about watches, he was definitely a lover of a fine timepiece and in the last few years of his life built up a collection that included Rolex, Panerai, and Tag Heuer watches. He would also wear a military style Timex in places where it would be sensible to do so ( backstreets of Brazil for example). Earlier in his though he wore more humble watches. A Tag link, an inherited Rolex but also a small black faced watch which saw a lot of screen time in the show "A Cooks Tour". I will upload a few pics below. Does anybody have any idea which watch it is?

If I remember right…

he had a sub, and a Pam during his final series.

It may not be the exact same watch. I just noticed the lack of crown guards on AB’s watch.

But it’s close enough.

That's very impressive. I would not have got that. I thought it could be some kind of Ltd Edition Swatch or something. After his death several of his watches were sold off. But this one was never seen again after the first few series of Cooks Tour, though he clearly had it for quite a long time.

I think thanks to @gatorcpa I can consider this mystery solved. An interesting choice of watch for AB. After this watch he went for a Tag link, then an Ernst Benz and then got into some seriously nice pieces including a black milgauss.
The one constant watch he had was the Rolex he inherited from his dad. That didn't come up for auction and so I hope someone in his family will treasure it.

But the thing that struck me the most is that he spent the entire trip chatting with the guy seated next to him about what the guy did for work, his life, hobbies, etc. It was obvious the guy knew who Bourdain was, but Mr. Bourdain was genuinely interested in connecting with this stranger sitting next to him. I was very impressed by that. Not a lot of people (let alone celebrities) would have been as nice.

He was a great story teller. I miss watching him. I really enjoyed reading Kitchen Confidential too.

Interesting. I really enjoyed his shows and was saddened when he died. Never seen him wear a sub on screen. He wore a vintage rolex (op) a blue dial datejust and occasionally a blacked out milgauss. I always thought it strange he didn't wear a sub onscreen because he was a big fan of Apocalypse Now and Colonel Kurtz wore one. It would have somehow fitted in.

Cant wait for the movie to come out.....
I'm a bit behind, approaching the end few series of his show ( Ive slowed down it, I think because I dont want to get to the end), and read Kitchen Confidential at the start of lockdown. Some fella was Anthony.... RIP

I had read Kitchen Confidential and enjoyed it but In the early cook's tour programmes he was a slightly loud mouthed, brash type of fella who seemed a bit of a smart arse. That was the end of me watching AB until 2018, sadly the year he died. What happened is that my daughter was born and she would only sleep when being held. I would take over from my wife to do the morning "shift" in the wee hours and I one day I happened to put on Parts Unknown. From the opening credits I was hooked ( the Lanegan /Homme theme tune is a pearl) and saw that Bourdain had matured and that the programmes were now far more than just food programmes. They showed me places that I, as a young dad, was unlikely to see for awhile and also reminded me of places that I had visited.

No, I never saw him wear one though it would have been appropriate.

I never knew his watches were up for sale... not that I would of been in the running at that price

He was a great story teller. I miss watching him. I really enjoyed reading Kitchen Confidential too.

Definitely went too young, sad news indeed. I did not realize he had an interest in watches

As coincidences go, a mate turned up today with a copy of his book 'World Travel' for me today, that i wasn't aware existed.
Looking forward to the new documentary even more so now.
