The watch to end it all...(Omega Watchco Seamaster)

Hey all.

It's been an awful long time since I posted here. Alot has happened since Covid, and my interest in the hobby dwindled as such.

However, I was on the lookout for a nice 165.024 and a few OF established members had reached out to me about a sale. I was keen however I had to be financially responsible so I declined.

I decided on a watchco because it ticked a few boxes for me.

1) no worry about tritium / bakelite cracking / discolouration
2) movement repairs (though I understand the 552 movement is easily serviceable with donor parts) my watch repair guy recently retired so I don't have a reliable person to go to.
3) a modern piece would be less hassle and less worry (at least for me)

So I present this Watchco Seamaster (courtesy of @JimInOz who I had a magnificent a wonderful conversation with)

Bracelet is a forstner flat link which I bathed it in baby oil so it's smooth.

Not many pictures for now but this ends my watch hobby and I can honestly say there's nothing else I would want in my collection.

I'll still be around OF but my IG has been on hiatus for the longest time (no intention to reboot it) and thanks to OF for all the friends that I've made.

Cheers

I can't count how many times I've said this 😉

There's a condition known as SR ("seller's regret"), and I think I had a mild episode the day I mailed the watch.
However, that was quickly alleviated when the new owner told me how happy he is, so my fleeting case of SR was well offset by knowing the watch had gone to a very good home.

Congrats.

It's hard not to be curious about your collection. It's of course unique to each person but I can't help wanting to see your top 12 watches, or as much of your collection that you might want to share.

Whenever that happens: keep the watchco!

Congratulations to you, OP! This is a watch that everyone should admire and covet; I know I certainly do.

Hey,

I haven't taken a picture of the bunch of watches but so far its:

- Christopher Ward's "The Twelve" titanium blue
- Vintage Omega Seamaster "S hook" / Crosshair dial
- Helson Sharkmaster (watchco homage, got this to see if i really liked the clean
- SLA043 (basically a SLA017 with blue dial/second hand)
- Fleuxwatches 001 (microbrand from kickstarter)
- numerous vintage Seiko / Citizen watches but I forgot the model names/number and they are just nice, fun cheap watches to have about.

I used to collect UG Polerouters and Grand Seikos / Vintage Lord Marvels (in my DP) but I've moved those on.

It's funny, I don't miss those watches but its a "been there done there" sort of thing for me.

I've read some people's stories who say they have most of the watches they've ever purchased and never sell. But they seem like the minority. Certainly wasn't my experience.

There are so many great watches with so much history how does a person decide? I hadn't heard it expressed like this but your "been there done that" makes sense. Takes time to figure out what sticks.

That Watchco is a great watch. The 2254.50 is kindof my Watchco. Similar vintage throw back dial in a more modern piece. The Watchco is the OG. The 2254.50 was the more attainable version for me.

You can still contribute to the WRUW 😁

I have made some great friends while i was still in this hobby and I know at least 2 of them of who have kept 90% of their collection.

It was a fun time discovering what I liked and what I didn't. Honestly, I was even caught up in the IG hype back when certain brands and models were getting hyped and started to garner traction/prices increased etc...

And when I got those watches (Rolex 1675 was one of them), I felt "mmm okay so whats next?"

I couldn't shake off that next "incoming" feeling or furiously refreshing the tracking number online to see where the next incoming watch was at.

It actually felt like an addiction.

So I culled IG and stopped surfing and following watch brands/tags and I slowly reverted back to what I really liked; for myself and only myself.

Be happy with what you have. Being content with your collection is the most important thing. No need to keep chasing the rainbow, just enjoy what you have.

This is my issue -- I bought them for their uniqueness usually, I don't have multiples of the same watches and even if it's a same or similar reference, it's different enough. Sure, plenty are time only Seamasters but each has its place. Ugh. Selling? I DID choose to sell 2 gold devilles with date windows to consolidate into 1 with a curtain dial and no date but that took literally MONTHS to find a buyer at the right price. So SEE! I can sell a watch. 😁 (I probably bought 10 more since I began the sales process too lol)

- Fleuxwatches 001 (microbrand from kickstarter)

These have been my downfall lately: revelot, Arcange, draco, MMI, and heron lol this doesn't include the ones NOT on kickstarter like Erebus and LaMotte.

Congratulations, OP! I have a 165.0024 case ref that I had assembled from parts that I patiently acquired. It wasn't easy, and then you have to find a watchmaker willing to do it. And I just got a Forstner bracelet for it, too, which is great (but which also reveals its price point in a couple ways, in my opinion anyway).

I love my watch, too, and alternate between it and my vintage 165.024.

I bought this from a member on OF beginning of 2023 and I must say, love everything about it. Such a satisfying purchase.

Do you mean smooth as in pliable, not the surface?

Thoughts on the best place to find one of these? I don't see any on Chrono24 and I get nervous about eBay, etc. Or maybe it is just watch this forum for listings...

Your best bet is to buy on OF sales page forums. Be patient and one will turn up.

OF sales section is the place to go.
