Great idea for a topic. I bought my first Speedmaster (first Omega) in the early 90s. It was a late 80s standard Speedmaster Professional in nice condition, but it's long since traded. In fact, it was traded (as a small part of my side of the deal) for another somewhat more costly and much older model. If I have photos, I'd have to scrounge to find them. It looks like the one mad dog shows here, but I could never get it to fit my waist, no matter how many times I tried.

I missed the second part of the topic. The watch that started me on watches was a Timex that I got for xmas in about 1968. I think it lasted until the summer of '69. In its defense, I didn't treat it well.
I got my first real Timex, bought it at the five and dime wore till it went and died was The Summer of '69

Little known fact, this was the way Bryan Adams' first draft of the lyrics were written. I can't imagine why he changed it.

She also loves watches and all things vintage. But get this....doesn’t ever wear one. Ever.

It’s a bit odd 😒

I was doomed from childhood. My Grandfather, Dad and aunt all wore Rolex watches when I was a kid. I was given a Timex when I was 6. I'm sure I wrecked it. I likely took it apart to see how it worked.......
My first Omega was an orange bezel, 8500 movement Planet Ocean. My son wears it now. It was the beginning of a whole bunch of time and money spent on watches. It's fun though

Hopefully, my next acquisition will be a Speedmaster Tintin. There's something about the red and white around the dial that I like...

Plus who knows how easy they will be to find (for a decent price) in the future.

Wow! Very beautiful, striking watch @Foo2rama !

Can you tell me please? What does the additional crown on the left do?😕

He valve. Fairly common on Omega divers.

Be sure you're sitting when you read this. They (women) are not like us. (Thank God.)

What Omega started your collection and interest in Omega?
I bought this new around 1990 - wish I knew about Speedmaster back then ::facepalm1:::

or What watch sent you down the rabbit hole of watch collecting?

Long term staker, first time poster.

It was the blue wave dial SMP that first did it for me thanks to Pierce Brosnan as Bond. I’ve since picked the blue SMPc and a beautiful white dial speedy reduced. Speedy Pro is almost definitely my next acquisition but still haven’t bottomed out on the exact piece.

Stupid question.... how does one find out about estate sales other than dumb luck? Are these advertised on any prominent websites? Thanks!

There is an app for this....seriously.

My first Omega was my first high quality watch.

I was working on Wall Street - NYSE Trading Floor. Gold Rolex watches were ubiquitous, many being worn as bracelets. Never sized, time/date never set. I couldn’t wrap my mind around that practice so I went with Omega instead. The blue of this Seamaster perfectly matched the blue of our floor coats too. That began a decades long love of Omega. Until a year ago I was all Seamaster. Then I acquired my grail watch, a Rolex GMT Master with the BLRO bezel insert. Loved it since Magnum PI. Broke me out of my narrow focus on Seamasters, and a month later I had my first (and only) Speedmaster.

Funny how a Rolex, the brand for which I previously had such disdain, got me to buy a Speedy. It awakened something dormant inside me. I have always been something of a space geek and Speedmaster turned out to be ideal for me. Used to think I HAD to have a dive watch (former diver here) so I never even considered Speedmasters. What a dope I had been!

Well the one that started it....

It was the year of 2012, around February and I had a few extra bucks so I thought I would buy myself a nice watch. Not one of those cheap Timex plastic watches, but a really good quality watch that would last for the ages. And one that looked cool. So I picked this one up at a screaming deal, about 95% off retail at the local mall here in San Diego.

So after a few months, I really liked the idea of wearing a watch daily and decided I would start collecting watches. Started off with some low cost watches ($200-300 range) and played around for a few months before deciding I wanted to take to plunge and buy a real "luxury" watch. Bought a 3572.50 in late 2012 and have not looked back.

Wowee that's quite the progression.

I especially love the look of the CK2998, that one is definitely on my list

Hi @ras47 . It's interesting how our thoughts and views on different watches changes over time. I was 90% for new 10% vintage a few years ago now its 90% vintage and 10% new.
