I'm very flattered by some of the comments in this thread. @Larry-S, I couldn't buy a review like that! Thank you kind sirs, every one of you!

A couple of points of clarification...

The Classic Edition of the Field Guide (ISBN 9780578524801) is a data-first, no-frills, book you might take to an auction or watch fair and scribble in the margins. It was designed to be a cross between a Lonely Planet City Guide and a Boy Scout Wilderness Survival Guide. Something to carry with you, and reference on the go (wave it in the air as you place that $1M bid for that Padellone!). It weighs in at 1lb 7oz (7.5" x 9.25") and travel bag friendly. And there's a Spanish translation coming May 1st too (ISBN 9780578670508)

The new Chevalier Edition of the Field Manual is a desk-reference (ISBN 9780578630823). Hardcover, 2lbs 10oz (8.5" x 11"), with new material and a LOT of photos. These are real-watches, not posed, museum pieces. Pictures come from the workbenches of some people you might know - Mike Hui, Phillip Ridley, Scott Baratz, Tanner Morehouse, James Hyman... and of course a substantial section on Space flown Rolex by @SpeedyPhill 馃榾

The release on May 1st will be low key. I don't have much of a marketing budget and frankly, collector's priorities seem to be elsewhere right now. It will be available on AMZ and bookstores including Waterstones and B&N. Early lead times might be long as bookstores (even AMZ) still need to order inventory.

I've been coy about plugging or otherwise announcing the book as I know moderators tend to frown on self-promotion. Especially at those "other two forums". If anyone wants to know more or might be willing to write me a review somewhere, please feel free to reach out - I'd love to hear from you.

Regards

-Colin

Just put in an order for delivery to Australia. Look forward to receiving and reading!

Here's the top shelf of my wristwatches bookcase... tip of an iceberg
馃摉
The hardcover VRFM - Vintage Rolex Field Manual has 266 pages and is a bit smaller in size than the Mondani books.
While the Mondani books focus on large photos of almost pristine watches, the VRFM has lots of smaller photos of real worn watches with character and the book also talks about patterns of wear and signs of age & usuage.
So in summary, smaller photos but lots more text, stories and tables on wristwatches but also info on bracelets, movements, accessoires, etc...
A must-have edition to Your coffee-table books !

That's because I have each " Moonwatch Only " edition at least twice...
As a co-author, one gets at least a free AARV - Advanced Author Review Copie of a book he/she wrote a contribution for 馃榿

This is just what I was looking for - ordered and will be here tomorrow! And I love the advice to start small - exactly what I was thinking of doing, and what I did with Omega.

Mine was delivered today. It looks like it's full of useful information, delivered in a fairly neutral way, and for an exceptionally fair price given the book's technical and specialist nature.

This book stands out because it is so well researched, I have been through it a couple of times now and tested it against 2 of my older Rolex watches and it proves spot on.
