Sometimes everything comes all at once. After landing two of my grail Speedmasters earlier this summer, another cool opportunity popped up. Like the others; too good to pass up on.

Precursor
Earlier this year, I’ve helped @DrDan out with some bracelet links. A nice exchange of messages followed. And then, out of the blue, came this:

I am afraid a little confession is required now... I did indeed obtain the ST2 at retail years ago, but it came at a rather unfortunate time financially. So, about a year after purchase, I sold it. Unlike most other watches I’ve sold over the years, this one remained a regretted loss.

Again, timing could be better…
One thing led to another when DrDan mentioned he was owning not one, but two ST2’s. He was so kind as to suggest selling it back to me. As already alluded to, though, I’ve just acquired a few really cool watches and couldn’t justify another one right now. Anyway, it turned out I was holding onto a vintage Speedy DrDan would love to own, so a trade was arranged for. And what’s more fun than meeting IRL to do that trade? Right.

Off to Berlin!
From Amsterdam, Berlin is only a train ride (and a very early morning start) away…

Finding each other required some artistic skills…

Of course, a hearty lunch is essential… and no complaints there!

Look what landed next to the coffee! I’ve been told I need to thank DrDan’s son for this. Very thoughtful! 😊

After an absence of about five years, the Ultraman boomeranged back onto my wrist. A few small dents and scratches richer, and al the more wearable as a result. Glad to have it back! And I’m at least just as happy seeing how much DrDan likes his “new” Speedy. 😀

StrapKlub
Nope, not a typo. It’s the fun name of my friend Knud’s new business. A true watch and tailoring aficionado who’s venturing out into high quality straps. As he’s based in Berlin, it made perfect sense to meet up over a good glass of wine while I was there anyway. Very enjoyable.

Bu the way, my ‘new’ Ultraman does a great job modelling, don’t you think? Only trouble is; which one to pick? Well, all of them is the only correct answer. So I’ve bought enough straps to wear the hell out of this watch for years to come… Which is exactly what I intend to do.
(In case you’re wondering; no, this is not sponsored, but the prices are attractive enough still to buy multiple. Check out: www.strapklub.com)

Massive thank you to@DrDan is in order. Without his generous offer and great company, this wouldn’t have happened. And certainly wouldn’t have been as much fun.

Oh, and rest assured, Ultraman isn’t going anywhere anymore, unless it’s on my wrist. 😁

Great write-up, Sander - I really enjoyed reading the whole boomerang story from your side. 😊

And yes, finding each other in Berlin apparently required some rather advanced cartographic skills… I’m glad to see my highly sophisticated navigation map has now been preserved for posterity. 😂

More importantly, I’m genuinely happy that the Ultraman found her way back to you after all those years. And I couldn’t be happier with the 145.012-67 that found her way to me.

I’d say this one worked out pretty damn well for both of us. 😎

Wait a minute here!

This is the exact same watch that you sold 7 years ago? Hahaha what a great story. How life can be so funny sometimes.

Congratulations on finding it back.

Exactly! Not sure it’s still a “first owner watch” but technically, I am that first owner still. 😁

What a coincidence! So did you sell it to DrDan back then? Or did it go round the planet before landing back to Germany?

How much watches travel amazes me sometimes.

Nope. I sold it in NL back then. After that, it apparently landed with another Dutch owner (dealer) who subsequently sold it to DrDan. Back then we didn’t know each other yet, so there’s a huge amount of coincidence involved in getting to this trade. Lucky coincidence, that is. 😁

Congratulations! This must mean you can never part from this watch again. Btw you are enjoying your watch trips lately! Great to see.

Thanks! And yeah, I’m definitely enjoying those trips. Can’t get enough of them! Although I do suspect this to have been the last one, for a while… Time to start saving up again first.

And if you ever manage to destroy that red Bezel , let me know. I still have a few NOS Bezels left .... Achim
