Redial?
Yep Edit: I think I should add to this too short an answer of “yep”

-dial quality looks good (Courtesy of Mark posting after this post) but for instance the minute counter subdial compared to the 2 pictures in my lower post has much bigger fonts
-no lume dial against lumed hands is a concern
-“Swiss made” at 6 o’clock is a concern (should either be “Swiss” or nothing)
-crown replaced with a U crown (should be plain like my 2 posts after this). Could the dial be serviced and crown replaced by UG at a later stage, that is also a possibility (given it seems like a 60s U crown and the pretty well made dial with odd sub dial minute counter fonts compared to other early 40s aeros as well as “Swiss made” and lack of lume on the dial despite lumed hands)

Forgot to post the link: https://www.phillips.com/detail/universal/CH080120/182

Quote:
"The present example is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and best preserved examples to appear in an auction room: the case did not suffer invasive polishing and perfectly retains its proportions. The dial as well not only is unrestored, but it furthermore arrives to us in impeccable condition: an unusual occurrence as this kind of dials tend to age with spotting and oxidation marks. The only hint to the passage of time is instead, in this instance, a supremely attractive and even ivory patina."

Yep
Ok Hands Lumed/No evidence of dial lume from pics. I don't think this is a redial however. After the last Aero Kerfuffle, never say never.

“Swiss made” just doesn’t look right.

Possibly ... but the overall dial looks kosher.

although there are some unusual things about the dial, my gut says its OK. The main crown obviously replaced, perhaps the left as well ?

Another sample of same reference. Note that there is no “Swiss made” and there are lumes on the dial matching the hands.

No lume configuration (also original) edit: disclosure I used to own this, parted with it in 2016.

Not supposed to have “U” on the crown

Do you mean the fact that it says "swiss made" at all is wrong, or you feel the actual printing of the the "swiss made" is wrong? It's obviously very uncommon to see swiss made on examples from this time period, but you do seem them occasionally. Here's an example, and I've definitely seen others, but not very often. It's a bit hard to judge the swiss made text on the Aero as it's getting distorted by the crystal. Although I haven't followed the link to study in detail.

Anyhow I don't have a strong opinion, there are some things odd on the phillips watch, but I'm also cautious to say redial without doing a fair amount of research, especially with UG, and also especially with Aeros, I just feel the dials are a bit all over the place, even for UG ?

My personal rule of thumb: watches from the 40‘s were marked „Swiss“, early 40‘s were umarked like 30‘s dials - and that‘s why i second „it doesn‘t look right“ on this Aero.

sure, I agree as a general rule of thumb, but it's the exceptions that get complicated.......

The outdoorsman above is 40s, what do you feel about that dial ?

I've seen other similar time period examples with Swiss Made, and the dials I find completely convincing.

Mods: is it an idea to change the topic title to something like ‘The big aero compax thread’?
