The Time 4A Pint Podcast #4: Neil Francis. Collector of Watches and... Things. (remastered)

I like to see this podcast being on a broader base.

This podcast represents how most conversations I have with people go... we may aim to talk about one thing (watches), and then we talk about EVERYTHING. 😁

Great work once again, Chris and I enjoyed every minute of it, both non-watch talk and watch talk. I can agree with what some others are saying about staying focused mostly on the watches and collectors, not other items. But I enjoy it all none-the-less.

My one critique is something I am guilty of doing myself very often(and I am trying to stop doing it, which is probably why I noticed). There were quite a few times where you and Neil were talking over each other. Naturally when two people get excited about the same thing at the same time this is going to happen. However on the listening end, it ends up sounding just like a garbled mess for a few seconds.

Still a very enjoyable episode(worked perfectly for my commute once again). Keep it up! Can't wait for the next episode!👍

1000 times this Jake!

I was listening to it before first edit, and kicking myself... 100% something to watch myself for.

What I like about the podcasts is really not knowing what to expect. Each one thus far has presented wonderful insights to of course watches, but, also the people being interviewed.

The standards that have been set are nothing short of wonderful. The whole production is incredibly professional, when one considers that this is just you and what you decided to take on. The Time4APint event. The website. The recording gear. The podcasts. Just wow!

The comments regarding 'more watch time please' I get. But happily found myself listening and engaged in understanding what makes a fellow member tick.

If you do ever get to interview me, just edit out (or down) any discussions on my life long collection of parking fines, speeding points, oh and strip club tokens. All way too off piste. (albeit I do have a very rare, recently discovered sock find, one from Spearmint Rhino....Vegas 2006 I think!).

Keep it up. Great job. 👍 (Thanks also Neil 👍. Dibs on the pipe).

Make it 30mins ??????

It's creeping in that direction... I can see these hitting an hour at some point, and me breaking the 15-20 minute promise of episode 1!

Not at all. In a future episode when I ask for your full banking details... just go with it.

I thought It was interesting.

There are those instagram days when I scroll through watch after watch after watch. Then a Bakelite bezel GMT literally doesn't make me pause, because I have seen three already - then up comes something like Chris' cat and I stop, and pause.(Pun intended)

I found this podcast a colorful discussion between two watch collectors about interesting objects. It was an insight into a watch collector's mind, and I loved it. It was interestingly presented. The content was varied. The obsession was palpable.

If all the talk was of watches, or just omegas, I think my senses might be dulled. Chris appears to be going for one podcast a week. So a bit of variety is, from this listener, welcomed.

There will be loads of time for more details Omega discussions.

So...

Dont panic!

(reference to T4P episode 4 where Brit comedy shows were exchanged for American Political Buttons....I mean you could not make a more eclectic connection up right?)

It's been one of the shortest half-an-hours in my life. Literally absorbed by this discussion. 😵‍💫

Way too short. Maybe. Well but a bit longer... Nope! :whipped:

knowing that not all the object have been discussed left me with really curious emotion. Liked it very much 👍

I had the same feeling whilst editing @kov... the time seemed to pass very quickly... but then the time spent with Neil, and with William, and with James... and with you guys at the Speedy Tuesday event was over in a blink of an eye.

I think where you talk (or listen) to interesting people... the days just disappear! 😀

Well done, yet another cracker. Oh and this time controversy. Really Chris your out doing your self. Engaging the comments to flow. More this, more the other stuff.

I'd say this stick to what your interviewees knows, and gently stear them. That will create great content. Like watches there is a magic formala 3*content.

So what if it not all watches. Keep it short and sweet too, we want more, don't give it unless it's a Christmas special. Thus we will come back for more..... Again and again.

Well others are far better at waxing lyrical than I, into the night once more.

Thanks Neil & Chris 👍

Ps Im just going to say JLC in the future.😬

Another great episode Chris. Enjoyed the drift into other collections as we are all collectors at heart. The people are the guest in my book not the watches there just the bonus 👍
Pictures are great also👍

I thought I'd listen while enjoying a long, late breakfast and was instantly hit by some very strange similarities. I don't have US Election pins but there is this ...

from my ex's father. Damn, that's ... 20 years ago now? Somewhere I also have the certificate where they also made my a Kentucky Colonel. If the Mexicans ever decide to invade Texas again, I think they have the right to call me up.

But the one that really made me sit up was the pipe. This is sitting across the room from me:

Something interesting that's coming out in a lot of the feedback, both here, and in private, is that people would like a longer podcast.

I committed to keeping things short, for fear of no one wanting to listen... but I'm going to loosen things up a bit, and let them flow... each week they've been slowly but surely getting a few minutes longer.

Maybe just see where it goes?

I just binge-listened to all 4 episodes this morning (and then subscribed). I have to say that I really enjoyed the format. I think you hit on something here. I like to hear people sitting around telling their stories. Your format is a little reminiscent of the "On Time" podcast and I LOVE that one.

I don't mind at all about the non-watch content; I rather liked it. Where else could I hear about an arrangement to exchange British comedies on VHS for obscure campaign buttons....? I was totally engaged. I also loved hearing about the speedmaster from the lady who didn't know what she had. Man, what a story. I guess l like to hear about how people acquire these things.

Like other people have said, I can't believe that voice comes out of that lizard costume... 😀.

I for one encourage you to go longer. Maybe I'm weird, but I certainly don't mind longer podcasts. It's just more of a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I regularly listen to 2h long computer security podcasts...

I listen because I like it, not because it is short.

Well done and please keep it up. I'd love join the group for a GTG but it would be a 8 hour flight for me. Maybe when I'm on vacation some day.

Chris (and Neil), congrats on another really entertaining episode! My partner and I listened to a couple of episodes together during a recent flight and she suggested that an episode on women in the watch enthusiast world and how they are/have been catered for by watch manufacturers would be interesting. Gotta say, I agree.
Anyway, awesome job, sir! 👍
Looking forward to hearing whatever you have coming up next.
