I listened this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hour flew right by.

My father had a book he got sometime in the 80s called something like Erotic Art of the Masters and I could swear that rude nun picture was in it.

 

Spend a lot of time with that book @ahartfie

 

Nah, his Playboy collection going back to before I was born was much more interesting! Purely for the articles, you understand.

just catching up on these and finished Episode 6 recently, glad to hear these are still going on unlike jakes rolex blog's podcasts

Just caught up on this ep tonight, was hoping that when I checked this thread some Antiques Roadshow-type historian would have commented explaining exactly what the deal is with that nun thing, or at least some more info on the Jesus watch! Either way, very interesting stuff @neilfrancis !

 

I found 3 more examples of the Jesus watch online - all quartz, all gold plate, no makers name on the dial... and there the information stopped.

An art historian friend tells me that the flying penis/exposed genitalia of the nun, in a mix of ancient Roman/Grecian art, and renaissance, are all fertility symbols.

She said that you'd normally have 1 symbol, not 8...

I wondered if that was a pill box for home brew South American viagra?
