The Omega Speedmaster Mk40 3820.53 is a bit of an oddball in the collection. Besides the Professional, Omega has always had a number of Speedmaster variations in the catalog since 1969. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Speedmaster Reduced was an alternative to the Moonwatch for those who wanted a smaller watch, one with an […]

While this specific version is now carrying a pretty significant price premium, if you’re willing to settle for one that’s a bit less colorful, there are a huge variety of dials, hands, bezels and case metal combinations available in this and they’re just straight up great watches. The less sought after ones are absolute bargains on the market today and combine some interesting complications with a lot of reliability and accuracy.

True, somehow especially offered from Japan are even interesting with the additional custom "fees" added.

I’ve been on the hunt for a good Mk40 (the second gen super-luminova dial) for a few months. You’re not helping RJ!!!

Hi guys, I have the chance to buy this watch for 2.500€ and enjoy it. Do you think is a good price for a 25ys old watch? is it too high if I want to resell it in the short term?

thanks

Francesco

Too many variables. People need to see pictures and understand other details like service history, box/papers, bracelet vs leather, etc.

I was asking for the model and the ref, assuming everything is ok would you buy it in order to enjoy a few and not losing money while reselling?

Too many variables to give you a sensible answer. Does it need a €600 service? Is the €500 (est) crystal damaged? If the €500 (est) dial or €700 (est) bracelet damaged? Etc etc. If you are asking is it a good flip candidate, probably not. If any one of those is an issue you are probably losing money over buying a decent one. In any event I doubt it’s a model that will appreciate much further since it’s had its Hodinkee (and Fratello) day in the sun.

Thank you very much! My problem is that i see some transactions in europe but the prices here in italy are higher, so I don't know precisely what could be a good price to buy or sell for a specific model. Thank you for the feedback, appreciated!
