Any news on the possibility of a black ripstop?
I didn’t want to reply just yet because I haven’t received a complete answer. However, they said they could make a black ripstop strap but would have to source black material first. After receiving that, I followed up on Thursday asking what the process would look like for us to make that purchase and they haven’t replied (yet at least). So they can do it, but I can’t provide anything more than that, sorry.

No apology needed, sir! Much appreciation for following up!

Looking forward to a weekend of beautiful Spring weather, hope you all have a nice weekend as well.

I spent the day doing a final edit of a textbook I am an author on. I'm super happy I found a package for the typesetting language I am writing it in to make nice professional looking text boxes and graphics for section headings. It turned out quite nice. I am publishing it through the university so students can download it for free, which means I am on my pretty much own to make it look good.

Congrats! I wish I had the time to write (and read) what I want. Administrative duties prevent that from occurring most weeks, much less days. I sometimes pine for the simpler days…

I did the bulk of the work last semester when I was on sabbatical. This semester was editing and waiting on coauthors.

Good morning, friends! Dropping in to wish you all a happy and safe weekend. Today, I'm wearing my Speedy and a comfy flannel to stay warm and conceal my daily carry weapon. Sipping some cold water on the couch (last night's dinner of hot wings made me very thirsty). Waiting for the four year old to finish her breakfast and then we're headed to the Triumph motorcycle dealership. We stopped by there the other day just to appreciate some shiny toys. I'm from four hours north of here and never had a chance to see any Triumphs in person. Nice machines!

Anyway, while I'm waiting for a training date to start hauling skydivers, I thought I'd drop into the Triumph dealer and schmooze my way into a job in their shop to help fill the gaps between flying. Rumor has it they're looking for a mechanic. Hopefully my wrenching on jets will transfer well enough into motorcycles ::psy::

That's great. Personally, I'm looking forward to this summer. I plan on trying to get an oral history project off the ground. If I can get the first batch of interviews knocked out over the summer, I reckon I can start writing during the fall semester.

Not as big of a project as it sounds. There was an old textbook that we wanted to use for a class. It had the students use computers to explore mathematical ideas. The only problem was the software was all outdated. I contacted the original authors about updating the book. With their support I wrote all new software and integrated it into the text to make a second edition. It was a great experience and I will be happy to teach from the new edition in the Fall. I would not have been able to write this text from scratch, the first edition had 11 authors.

I think I would enjoy taking oral histories. I love hearing older folks tell their stories.

What did you write in? LaTeX? I spent many years writing with FrameMaker and its equation editor was supposedly pretty good, but I never had to use it. In 2010 I switched to Oxygen XML Author and that worked pretty well for us with the Componize DITA plug-in. At the end it could publish my 2200-page user guide without blinking.

Did some work around the house today. Repaired a shed that somebody backed into with their much to big Toyota pickup. Stacked fire wood in same shed. And I found a watch today, while looking for tools that same somebody misplaced. Its a Wolverine!
I am not certain that this compass would lead me home safely though.

You go to the driving range while wearing a Speedmaster?! You sure it can take that kind of abuse? ::stirthepot::

Kiowa family histories. I hope to gather enough information to start writing on the early twentieth century, right after the Kiowa-Comanche-Apache reservation was dissolved by Congress, through WWII. The elders who are old enough to have such memories are dying off quickly. The death of N. Scott Momaday drove home the necessity of this kind of research for the tribe.

If this pans out, I'll consider casting a wider net and looking at the Comanche and Apache as well.

That sounds like some important work you are doing. I do doc video work and I sometimes wish I had a chance to do more oral history projects. It overlaps a bit, but half of running interviews for short docs is me going "wow, that was an amazing story, but this video is 10 min max, so can you try and tell me that in a shorter quote?" Makes for a nice short video but doesn't allow me to dig too deep.

Yes, it was written in LaTeX, which is pretty standard in the math world. Being at a California University, everything published online needs to be ADA accessible. It is only within the last year that LaTeX was able to produce accessible PDFs, so that was great. It takes a lot longer to produce compile the document with accessibility turned on though. I'm pretty sure XML / MathML has been accessible from the start, but I am pretty invested in LaTeX having used it for over 27 years.

I just want to report that I managed to squat a heavy single at 420 on 4/20. My wife wasn't super impressed by this news so I thought I'd blab about it here.
