These came out of motorcycling and MotoGP tech. The latest high tech airbag vests get rid of the rip cord and use accelerometers to determine if a crash is happening. Have to deal with batteries but gets rid of the scenario where you forget to disconnect the rip cord when dismounting and accidentally inflate in the parking lot.
Interesting, although I wonder if the "enhanced" version with accelerometers would work on a horse as most "crashes" occur at low speeds and the injuries, like my daughter's, often occur because of interaction with the horse or a solid object like a jump, fence or the ground AFTER the fall occurs. Motorcycles certainly have some advantages over horses -- they don't bite, they don't kick, they are far cheaper to maintain, and they don't have a mind of their own. Then again, I've yet to see a motorcycle that looks this beautiful in motion:

That's one good-looking horse. Dang, now that I think about it, I'm a bit bummed that my kid doesn't have any contact with horses like I did growing up. I'm getting misty thinking about going on sleigh rides in the winter 😬

Ok, I'm fed up with the prices on basic leather watch straps. I'm handy and my wife is a textile artist. I think I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands.

Does anyone have suggestions for retailers for leatherworking tools and suitable leather for strapmaking?

Will be glad to help out. I was lucky to buy a pile of leather from the estate of an Italian Shoemaker, along with several tools. @Dsloan send me a message and will give you my cell number for ease of communication. You will find it very therapeutic.

Our renovation of a 150 year old building is coming along well @gbesq and we may be able to have our next GTG within that building. I will move most of my leather working tools there also.

I can attest to Steve’s skills. I will be discussing another fixed bar project soon.

I've got two vegetarian brothers and cook that way multiple times a week. Always interested in good recipes if you have one you'd share

I would encourage you to think about things that you already cook that would work without meat. Pasta is a good choice. I enjoy a simple tomato-based sauce with cauliflower, make sure not to overcook it though. Overcooked veggies are no good. Make chilli or split-pea soup without meat. use vegetable broth and add smoked paprika to replace the smokiness you would get from ham-hock. Be careful with the smoked paprika, a little goes a long way. Beans and rice burritos are good to.

I think if you adapt something you are good at, it will turn out better than looking up the latest trendy ultra-healthy out there recipe you find on the internet. I've been vegan for over 30 years, but mushroom steaks served over a bed of pomegranate-kale-quinoa-polenta sounds as unappetizing to me as it does to the average American.

I do: this isn't an issue. I make my own curry pastes, and Thai curry, noodles, most Indian masalas/curries can use meat or not. Mushrooms are great in spaghetti or lasagna- More along the lines of asking for a couple of other people's favorites.

Sounds like some great food, I'd be happy to eat at your house. I listed many of the things I cook in my post, but I don't have any recipes. All of them are in my head and nothing is measured so it is hard to write things down.

Edit: I did think of something. This bread recipe changed my world. I make two loaves a week and pretty much quit buying store bought bread. I do make it in a loaf tin and add more water than she calls for. She was using fresh ground flour and I suspect it has more moisture than what you buy in the store. I add enough extra water to make the dough sticky as she describes in the video.

In the totally random category, I met Mark Price this morning. For you basketball fans, he needs no introduction. 4 year starter at Ga Tech, ACC rookie of the year, 3x ACC 1st team All-American, 12 year NBA career, 4x NBA All-Star, All NBA 1st team (1993). One of the purest shooters to ever play the game. And just a solid, genuine dude overall…

And I just realized I am being totally photobombed by the girl in the red behind us 😁

Here’s a good one. You guys have probably seen the creepy one day only buying event circulars that come with the supermarket weekly’s. Watches, coins, gold etc. Has anyone attended? I imagine guys behind folding tables, cheap suits, sinking of whiskey and cigarettes, at a suburban hotel ballroom.

Nope, but sounds like an outstanding afternoon of haggling.

Evening folks. Mighty quiet around the water cooler today. Everybody take a vacation day and forget to send me the memo? 😉 Long couple of days but quiet here in ruralville. Hope everyone is ticking right a long.

Well it’s the last day of the month so I’ll be up all night working third shift. And by working I mean mostly (hopefully) waiting around. Let’s see how long OF can sustain me for. I need a good troll thread or somebody to waltz in with a NASA Speedmaster to keep me entertained.

So I'm guessing, OF watercooler, a place to shoot the shit kinda thing😀, so questions, anybody got any metal in them?
I took a bit of a tumble 3 weeks ago while skiing, ended up with this, left tibia fractures.

Anybody got something similar, how did it work out? I'm all good, just need to be patient now, fortunately time I have so one day at a time.
Cheers

I took a tumble a few years back off a roof, and now I have this:
