Evening folks. Mighty quiet around the water cooler today. Everybody take a vacation day and forget to send me the memo? 😉 Long couple of days but quiet here in ruralville. Hope everyone is ticking right a long.

There are 1800 online now, the treads do not reflect that, too much lurking and not enough posting. Why is that, are we an unfriendly bunch? I don`t think so. Are we a little rough on the new posters? Maybe?

I really like this place, so I hope everyone contributes to it. Have a great weekend everyone.

I suppose many people just come here for information and aren't here for the community. I came for the former, but grew to really appreciate the latter. Speaking of being rough on posters, how come you still haven't added an avatar after 3 years and 1,059 posts? Perhaps something like this? 😉

Just having a little fun. I hope you have a lovely weekend as well @hen.

Been busy at work. Anyone else in the Northern hemisphere looking forward to Spring? We've had one of the wettest winters I can remember up here in the temperate rainforests of Northern California. I'm looking forward to drier weather and daylight savings time in a couple weeks.

Pouring rain and in the low 40s here. I’m ready for spring as well. Meantime, my employer gives us a book stipend to broaden our minds and talent…this one is on the way. Looking forward to giving it a read.

I took a tumble a few years back off a roof, and now I have this:

Wow😲, I'd say that laid you up for a while. Amazing what they can do.

That is a pretty cool job perk, it looks like an interesting read. Let us know what you think of it when you're done.

I was flat on my back for three months, then went through rehab, used a walker for months, then a cane, and finally get about without one. Because I had severed arteries in my foot, it sometimes swells so I can't stand all day and lecture or hike for hours without taking a rest, but I do alright. I can also predict the weather now, it is very sensitive to pressure and temperature changes.

Sounds easy on paper but three months on your back would be tough, good to hear it's mostly ok. I imagine I'll become a weather predicting expert too in the future.

It was a very long road to recovery and I am still not 100% by any means, and may never be again. Beyond the swelling there is one screw that gives me a moderate amount of pain on a daily basis and bumping it is very painful. Luckily I find that wearing cowboy boots helps immensely, both with the swelling, and with protecting my heel from accidental knocks. I don't have a full range of motion any longer and my ability to run is limited.

I will say that there was also a positive outcome for me. The ordeal made me more empathetic. I had always been fairly optimistic and really couldn't understand depression. I had always been pretty active and I love being outdoors: hiking, camping, shooting, hunting, fishing, and running are some of my favorite past times. Laying on my back staring at the ceiling or looking out the window every day for three months sent me into a deep funk and there were times I hoped that I would just die in my sleep because the prison of my bed was just unbearable. After experiencing that I know what some people go through and how life can sometimes seem hopeless. So maybe, I'm a little bit better of a person than I was four years ago.

Sunday Lunch UK style is just one of the best things in life!

Pub for a pint, home to put in the chicken (o.h.) and a pork chop with an apple ring in foil for me, roast potatoes, stuffing 3 veg and off you go. Couple of glasses of Muscadet and then slump in front of the log burner, zzzzzzz.

Off to soccer church this morning. We have a regular 9am pickup game every Sunday. It is the only time we can consistently sneak onto the turf field and get a game in. It will probably be raining, but that just weeds out the riffraff. It's a small community so we get a mixed group from 14-year-old girls, to current college players to us old guys.

I'm mildly grumpy after missing out on a few watch auctions, but I actually sort of have a couple hours to myself on a Sunday, so I'm queueing up the Arnold Classic to see big people lift heavy things. 😀

Short walk in Princeton this morning to kill some time and grabbed a coffee at the local spot. Unfortunately, both the watch shops are closed. I was hoping to pop in and gawk at some watches.

Just a friendly game of pick up soccer no need to wear shin guards, right?

You’re going to need a bigger boat …
Exciting, eerie, and unnerving all at the same time.

There has never been a recorded attack on a human by an Orca in the wild. They are highly intelligent and seem to know that we are not menu items. That being said, they are also intensely curious and intentional and often playful interactions with sea kayakers are not infrequent as this video shows.

But Orcas outside Gibraltar don`t seem to like sailboats. There have been several attacks lately.

Here are some pictures I took of what I think is Harbour Porpoise outside my hometown in Norway. It looked like a big pod of whales where all over the bay. This was a first for me, but I remember years ago there was a single orca that scared a diver in the same location. He felt his mates tugging wildly on his rope, when he saw the big black and white whale circling him.
