The Monodatic deserved a picture on its own, but the only pic I’ve got is one with its cousin.

You will recognize this famous watch from the “bgrisso” collection. Thank you to my friend for getting it into my hands.

Hi team, forgive my ignorance (admitting it is the first step)... could this be a precursor to the monodatic, or just a similar-looking dress UG? It does have the 138C bumper, and serial 15830xx. Apologies if wrong thread, and thanks in advance for any insights!

I think it's a re-dialed Monodatic where they've forgotten to put that bit of text back in. The font for Universal Geneve is all wrong and the markers on the sub-dial are woeful.

I don’t know about famous, but you are very welcome. That’s a great textured set !

...don't hold back! Seriously, I hadn't noticed the wrong font -- it's tiny, with amazing serif work, so I just assumed it was a variant. I see what you mean about the sub-dial markers though (better pic added for the enlightenment of others). For what it's worth, I'm still happy with this watch that I paid nz$900 (~us$650) a few years back. Main headache is finding a good strap combo in 19mm with the female lug pins. Thanks for the info!

Herewith my application for membership... with profound thanks to @MarktheTime who hooked me up with Dandy Watchman (who I believe inspired the original thread starter). Loving it!

I acquired this 18K Monodatic yesterday.
I didn't know the ref. and so it was a bit of a gamble. I'd wager the lugs are polished a bit but I'm pleased regardless.

Very nice 👍 Is this the one that was up on HF by any chance?

It was! Well-spotted, for the thread vanished after half an hour or so.

A new pic 😁

Hello UG experts! After watching this thread for a few years, I've been patiently looking to add a Monodatic to my collection, but they are rather scarce on the ground where I live in South Africa. I recently came upon a stainless steel example with gold dial furniture that looks promising. I've enclosed a few photos below.

A few thoughts:

-- The honeycomb dial appears to be original and in decent shape with some minor staining/patina. Interesting applied "bar" with the word "Universal" and "Geneve" printed directly on the dial beneath. There are a few other Monodatics in the thread with similar dials. The other text printed on the dial seems to have faded a bit, but that seems to be more common on the honeycomb dials. The applied numbers and "coffin" markers are consistent other Monodatic dials.
-- Case appears to be well-worn and moderately polished -- no longer crisp, but not terrible.
-- The 138C bumper movement is correct and appears to be in good shape. No obvious issues that I can spot. Seller claims the watch keeps good time.
-- Model number is 20010 and s/n is in the 15XXXXX range, which is age appropriate for a Monodatic.
-- Interior of caseback looks correct.
-- The crown looks like a replacement.
-- The minute and hour hands appear to be replacements, as Monodatics generally have dauphine hands like those on the UG Polerouter. Based on some online research, I've seen similar hands on UG Monodates, but not on Monodatics. I have no idea on the sub-second hand.

Welcome any feedback, comments, or thoughts from the UG experts in this thread. Many thanks in advance.

I get it, but this thing is a disaster. I feel like you should not pursue it. There just aren't any pluses.

if it's really cheap and you can enjoy it with all three hands wrong plus wrong crown, knock yourself out.

i would not want to be trying to find correct hands and crown for this watch.

it's always a plus when you have the roulette date wheel (odd dates are red), I'm not sure why some monos have it and some don't, this one obviously doesn't
