I think you may be getting ahead of yourself. If you go down the restoration route to David Bill & Sons, given that they seem to have a pretty good reputation, you may not need to consider a replacement dial. In any event, the dial you have linked to, though it looks nice enough, is not even close to the one you currently have. There are other issues to consider as well, such as the exact dimensions of the dial, its holes and the placement of dial feet and the underside of the dial.

Patience young Padawan, you'll get there in the end 馃槑

Hahaha! Yes, you're right, this was before i'd seen what David Bill & Sons can achieve... I've emailed them as i'd rather keep the original and have that restored, it's amazing what they can do there!

Hi Larry, yes I agree, love it on its new strap. I've emailed DB&S, just awaiting their response.

Sorry it's taken so long guys but here's how my Grandad's Omega looks now!

I had it serviced, new plexiglass, new genuine omega crown and the dial done.

Cyril at The Watch Service Centre LTD carried out the work and DR Bill & Sons completed the redial.

Cyril is a real too guy to deal with and very thorough and fast too, can't recommend this guy enough!

So pleased with and I've been wearing it with pride a lot.

This is a prime example of how sometimes a good restoration enhances the value of a watch. Maybe not to a collector, but in this case, certainly for the owner/wearer.

In my opinion the watch now looks stunning and I hope the OP enjoys it for many years 馃憤

Hi all,

To sum up the discussion:
- original dial: no redial, clean at your own risk
- already refinished dial: ok to redial
Am i getting this right?

To illustrate, just got my dad's badly beaten up omega cal 266 redialled after I was told that the dial was not original.

Went from this

To this:

So much better than wearing a very dirty and stained dial !! That's just giving it a new lease on life and am sure my son will enjoy wearing it immensely in 40 / 50 years time (after it's gone through a few more redials probably...).

Cheers!

In my opinion it depends on weather it's patina that adds character or corrosion that's so bad it makes the watch look as though it's been through hell and back. This is my personal opinion and I appreciate those opinions for leaving it untouched but when you see examples like this you have to appreciate how bloody good the watch looks again.

The photos show my latest inherited 18ct Gold Omega, I've just this morning had it back from Cyril at The Watch Service Centre who has done a fantastic job, with this one we decided to leave the dial and it looks equally fantastic.

Ah, the dreaded redial but damn that looks nice! As this is a family heirloom with a provenance I say well done and wear in good health! The work is superb.

This I guess technically constitutes the dreaded redial but damn that looks nice! As this is a family heirloom with a provenance I say well done and wear in good health!
Thanks Larry, love it and equally love my latest addition above which you'll be pleased to has the dial intact!
