It costs nothing to ask I guess, but it’ll be asking indefinitely

Makes me appreciate the ones I already have all the more.

I do think these were some of the nicest watches ever made. And they look good too. Some designs simply never go out of style.

Downside, is that the popularity make finding parts or project watches all that more difficult.

i really like mine, but am glad it was inexpensive to buy so I could get it serviced by someone I trust. Purchase price plus service was not $1900, but within a few hundred. I see the one on Hodinkee is now sold. The @Nepomuceño effect?

😀

It appears as though the watch in the eBay listing is the very watch in the sold Hodinkee ad. Possible buyers remorse?

I recall another instance of possible buyers remorse playing out the same way- a cheap but grossly over priced skin diver was sold by Hodinkee and soon after ended up on eBay for the same over inflated price… and languished. I can’t find it but I think, maybe, @JwRosenthal might remember it?

Love my next gen 14762SC-61. Also paid too much, although based on the design they should be more. Easy to get swept away.

I should have elaborated a bit more but as @Scarecrow Boat said bought on Hodinkee and now being resold on eBay by the original buyer. And I remember that skin diver @Scarecrow Boat. As I recall it was chrome and was bought for over $1000 👎

My oversight. I so rarely go on EBay and did not notice that your first photo was one of their listings. We are lucky to have a FS section here on OF. For that EBay price that is high.

I also remember the skin diver. I think it was a Sears brand. Something like “Tradition”.

I would be suspicious whether Hodinkee actually sold the watch in the first place.

Hodinkee can command their high prices because they have a large audience with money to piss away. Also, their reputation and buy the seller and all that. eBay is just full of cheap skates looking for a deal. 😁 I don’t think trying to leverage the dink brand is going to work there.

Gee Whiz we have an actual Sears 17 jewel alarm watch I was going to give away with our next watch purge. Good thing I seen this post of Hodinkee's as with the added complication of ours it certainly is worth nearly twice their plain diver.

@JwRosenthal watch out! Skin diver prices are about to go to the moon. You'll be able to buy your way into high society!

If they can get $1.2k for a chrome plated Orvin, I should be able to get at least $4k for this stainless Deluxe

Agreed. I’m gonna sell my Ranchero for $30k. Shouldn’t be a problem.

No way. Not $30k. There’s a guy here selling an all original one for $18500.
