Do you insure all these? Rare models to the safe deposit box?

Yes to the first question, no to the second. Live in an unassuming home, in a wealthy semi rural area with a big dog surrounded by homes worth 2 to 10 times as much.

I can see why certain models might be worth retiring, but I don't personally think a 105.012 Speedmaster is one.

My 105.003 and 105.012 are both in good condition, and are worn several days per week, although I take them off for cleaning/lifting etc. If they pick up a ding during light day to day wear, so be it.

If I can't wear a watch, I don't really want to own it.

The conundrum is exactly this sentiment running up against the passage of time.

Will there ever come a day when you see a 105.012 or 105.003 being worth retiring? In 20 years will you see the watch the same way? 40 years? What about the watches you own that you feel might be worth retiring some day? Will you buy a second to wear as a beater as suggested by @watchknut, will you retire the watch, or will you sell as @ulackfocus suggests.

Sell'em all, sell your house, close your accounts, and move to Montana and live off the grid.

oh wait - double post from another thread. Sorry!

I guess it might depend partially on what you've got invested in them. If Speedmaster prices keep going north and we get to 30k for an above average 105.003, I could see why someone might wear that sparingly. I didn't pay that, and my 105.003 is very unlikely to be sold as its my favourite watch. But as its my favourite, I love wearing it. I don't care what its worth. In 40 years time I'd rather look down and see it on my wrist, scratched and faded but with memories, rather than unmarked in a drawer.

I guess I just like to use it or lose it. More of a wearer than a collector.
