Yes, they are reputable (Claudio's in NC). I can certainly live with taking the hit of the service in the future, but I am wondering if there is a risk to the hand/movement if serviced as he said.

And how would I know if it is chrono creep or just a misaligned hand? If it is the former, I'd unwind the deal, as you said.
If it consistently resets to the same place over time then its likely a misaligned hand. If the reset location moves around or increments further up the scale then its chrono creep. There is always a risk to hands and dial when hands are being removed but there is no way round it and a skilled practitioner should have no problems.

Yea, it just clicks back to the same spot. And that's reassuring to know that this "issue" seems to be more based in imagination than actuality. I'll find a good watch maker and sort it out. Thanks!

Nice watch.

I suffer badly with OCD so am probably the worst person to give advice.

However..............over the years I have had many watches (and cars) with 'minor problems' that turned into other problems due to trying to correct the original minor issue. You are already concerned about damage to the hand etc. so I would suggest the following.

Wear it as is for a couple of weeks, do not keep looking at the position of the hand as it will not change and if it still bugs you at the end of that time fix it.

Chances are that after two weeks you will almost have forgotten about it - it is doing no damage and can always be sorted at a later date.

Don't let it spoil the pleasure of owning a new watch. Enjoy it.

You need to remove all of the hands in order to disassemble and clean the movement when servicing. So from the shop's reply I would have serious doubts that they fully serviced the watch for the previous owner.

Ha! As I type this, I am glancing down at it, so I, too, suffer from this odd anxiety. I think it is rational to expect something you shell out a lot of hard earned cash for to work without a hiccup, especially if it was advertised as "running perfectly." But, here are semantics, coming to the rescue of the seller. In his eyes, it could be "perfect." It is keeping "perfect" time, after all. This all gets interestingly philosophical.

Indeed, I am going to have my guy give it a look over, and if anything major is amiss, back she goes!

The day that seemed to pull farther away from me as it neared, that slow drag of time, is finally over! Walking back in the house after taking the dogs for a walk, I saw the FedEx package on that table and got good and giddy. This is my first Speedy Pro ever, so that feeling of awe and curiosity looms large today. I do want to extend a big thanks to all those on this forum who helped me make an educated and sound purchase; your knowledge and kindness are most certainly appreciated.

EDIT: Thanks for the kind words, folks! I do love this watch, but alas! I've just noticed an issue. The hour's subdial hand does not click back to 12 when reset (photos farther down in the thread). I've read some old forum posts about this, and most people have said that the hand may need to be realigned. My question: Do I send it back to the seller and have him do it? He claimed it was just freshly serviced in August of 2020....soooo how does this make sense? Should I just ask if he can cover the service in my town? His post had claimed that it was "running perfectly," but this is not perfect.

So, here are a couple initial photos (more to come in the natural light):

I must say, all of my worry about the lume of this watch ended right when looked at it in the flesh. How deceiving photos may be at times! And, while the new Speedy just dropped, I am still happy to have gotten this one. Something about the subdued font and overall modest nature of this watch moves me more so than the latest iteration. That, and, well, this has the aura of history orbiting about it, and that is something no adding or subtracting of a feature can alter.

When it comes down to it, this is a marvelous watch. My only initial hangup is the size of it, and that is surely due to the fact that I was wearing this piece below for about 2 years straight before I put on the Speedy today:

All in all, I am sure my love for this watch will grow over time. Even now, looking at it makes me smirk . And who doesn't love a good feeling of earned pleasure at the day's end?
Congrats on your Speedy! I'm a new owner as well and like you appreciate the wealth of information on this site as well as speedmaster101! I don't think I'd have felt comfortable buying vintage without the forums or speedmaster01. I'm thankful for the resources.
