Description: An Omega Speedmaster "Ed White" ST 105.003-65, featuring a swiss made handwound movement caliber: 321 in a steel case with black dial and three sub-dials, surrounded by a black bezel with dot over 90 on the orginal steel bracelet.Model: ST 105.003-65Serial: 24014393Bezel: Black BASE 500 bezel with dot over 90 (DO90)Year: 1966The watch winds and runs but has not been tested over time for long-term accuracy. We advise all watches and clocks be serviced upon purchase. The chronograph pushers are very stiff and need servicing. Heavily worn all over. Never been serviced according to the vendor.

Hammered at £5,500 which is £7,150 including Buyers Premium.

Did someone here get it? Was it a Bargain? I was thinking about bidding beforehand, but I am not well versed in vintage Speedmasters. The dial condition ended up putting me off, particularly the lume plots.

Those blow-out photos scare me. I think the case is heavily polished but the overexposure makes it hard to tell. Well, it's easy to tell on the caseback; the lug facets are trickier. Lume looks moldy (hard to tell for sure with the low rez photos that focus on the crystal). Oil or rust on subregister hands? No pics of inner cover or movement?

The photos look like someone was trying to hide things/ deceive.

Quite uninspiring, no movement pic(s), Hippocampus obliterated...

My first split-second impression was ‘that might be nice’ but the more you look at it the worse it gets….
Mouldy lume, damaged bezel, mismatched and damaged end links, possibly incorrect bracelet ref, possibly incorrect pushers, wrong crown….. try and find the nice part.

I considered bidding on this one and while I ultimately decided against it due to condition, I think it will clean up relatively well and although not a bargain, I think it was a reasonable buy for a daily wear straight lug.

Clearly it’s been serviced by someone without access to parts as the pushers and crown are wrong.
The bezel is pretty poor.
The dial is average. The lume let’s it down but I wouldn’t be surprised if the dial body is fairly good under there.
The case looks ok to me. Certainly heavily cuff worn but the facets still look visible.
The bracelet might need some repair but it looks correct and although there’s a 6 and a 16 endlink, these are pretty much the same.

So actually, the more I write, the more I’m glad I didn’t bid, but assuming there are no rust issues with the movement, I still think it’s an ok buy. Find one for less I guess?

Nope, I looked a lot at the lume and dial, plots looked that there were missing parts maybe…
The dial is hard to assess, for this one, you have to be there i do think.
The case was very scratched and worn, but I think untouched.
Even though kind of a nice watch!

gee, sometimes I think 10 minutes of polywatch could really help a seller and buyer in this situation...

Maybe, but not for the bezel, case and caseback??

😉
