I’m in the market for a nice Ed White and came across this one. Please can you give me your opinion of the authenticity and originality of the watch for which I would be most appreciative.

    Thank you,

    D6A84699-17C9-4697-8519-7C23F44A8B0C.jpeg Ed

Looks like it has chrono creep on the hour recorder. Not entirely convinced by the lume. It may be original but degraded, possibly by moisture or it may have been scratched off and replaced by someone who knew what they were doing. I suppose if its had been done recently though, it wouldn't have the mould spots so it may be straight. The colour is nice but the fact the hands and dial lume match so well is a concern, usually they don't on these! The lug bevels look rounded but most of these have had some level of polishing.

What is the serial? It has either been photoshopped off (normal paranoid dealer move) or is missing (red flag)

Is there lume sitting on the front of the chrono hand, as though it's been relumed from the front?

I’d say nice piece. Possible relume, a bit polished, but neither issue would be a dealbreaker for me. Overall, presents well. As indicated above by Padders, find out the serial and check Moonwatch Only for proper range for this model. Good Luck!

I think an older relume and given the chrono creep, it should be serviced.

Thank you for all your comments. What price would you put on this piece?

Look at the hour recorder (bottom sub dial). See how the needle doesn't like up with 12 even though the chrono is otherwise reset? It won't without watchmaker intervention and it suggests that a service is overdue. It's not a bad Ed White, it may even be a nice one in hand but it isn't top draw so the price should reflect the issues.

Oh yes I see what you mean. Can you give me an idea of a pricing scale. Is a top draw c.$20k and this maybe c.$15k?

Is that scratches on the hesalite or the dial? Different angle pics show the scratches at the same spots. One to look at is right above the 60 in the seconds subdial. Hope it’s just a case of needing some polywatch.

Taking into account the condition of the dial and Lume I would not pay 15k for this one..

I know little but understand Ed White's are sought after. Can't imagine this is worth $15,000. To me this watch looks like its halfway to scrap or at best in need of immediate care and babying afterwards. I would wear it for sure. If you buy it, treat it very well.

Would skip this one given the mentioned issues, price is steep for the condition.
