This will make me take a fresh look at my (small, if not modest) watch collection. If a man like Jack Nicklaus can be a one-watch guy, perhaps more of us can ... as long as it's the right watch.

Great link. Thanks for posting it!

Truly if you are going to have one watch for everything the 1803 makes quite a statement. Many would probably shy away from the yellow gold today, but it is quite impressive that the watch is mostly unchanged and still made today. Plus Jack Nicklaus is just the man, 37 times finishing either first or second in majors!!

Long gone are the days when many (most?) observers were proclaiming that it was just a matter of time before Tiger would blow past Nicklaus' Majors record.

I, for one, am very glad that it didn't work out that way, and especially given what the latter accomplished without the use of PEDs.

He is just such a classy, good-natured guy...and universally respected in and beyond the world of golf. Done the right way and with enough publicity, this auction should shatter a few records. Hey, just like he did.

This video is awesome, actually makes me want to stop buying more watches and enjoy what I got (make my own history). Hope it fetches a good sum during auction for charity.

After viewing that video with Jack, along with the Alton Brown episode, I immediately reconsidered purchasing a vintage Rolex. I have been so focused on Submariners and how I don't want to invest that much $ in a watch at this point in my life, that I didn't stop to consider a Datejust or Airking from the Golden Bear's era. Jack and Arnold Palmer were my golfing heroes even though I grew up in the Tiger era of golf. Jackie Stewart too on the racing side, but still classy. These guys were classy, or at least I think so. Sure they were given these watches, but Jack proves that you can wear one of these Rolex time telling tools for a lifetime and o everything with them on (even solid gold) and they keep working, just like those who wear them. So, this has inspired me to seek out a Datejust 1601.

With the Alton Brown video, I got the vibe that he is a watch nerd and likes to collect watches that have meaning and substance. And while I know that they are just things, there is something about a watch that is so defining. Not for luxury, or fashion or wealth, but as a classic style necessary for those who hold to classy ideals.
