Jack is the greatest from the greatest generation. I wish I was uber rich cause I'd pay just about anything to own that watch. I mean if there was ever a watch that sums up Rolex's motto "it doesn't just tell time it tells history" there it is.

Everyone can be Jack, and should be like Jack in their own way ( not these modern day sportsman )
Just buy a watch ( doesn't matter what watch ) and wear it for a long time and make your own history. 馃槈

great guy, great watch, great episode of TW.
note how jack was always careful NOT to wear his watch while actually playing the game. you should never play golf while wearing a mechanical wristwatch (or operate vibrating power tools, etc)-it will likely crack the rotor or balance, etc...

...So, this has inspired me to seek out a Datejust 1601.

Good choice, and the best value vintage watch out there. But don't overlook the 1603! Just a bit more rugged, IMO. Also, the white gold bezel of the 1601 doesn't always age as well, though I continue to see beautiful examples here and elsewhere.

The Golden Bear is to golf what Buzz is to space.

Loved that interview. Would also love to see what Jack's DD would bring to charity

IMHO...
A vintage 1803 in yellow gold on a genuine Rolex leather strap (and buckle) looks ridiculously cool and elegant. However, paired with the gold bracelet it often comes across as trying too hard. Some can pull it off quite well, whereas others look silly. Again, just my own observations.
