Take your watch swimming underwater?

Ever wear your watch when you’re in the water?

I don’t mind doing it with my Oyster Case type Rolex watches, but have never done it with my other watches even though they claim to be waterproof. The Rolex watches have a winding crown that screws on to the case like a submarine hatch.

Anyone put their Speedmaster underwater? Or other Omega watch?

I might do it with a newer watch but the two Speedmasters I’ve owned were 68 and 69 models.

If you have pictures of your watch wet or in the water, go ahead and post them.

Here are pictures of my GMT Master in my pool. Still ticking.

I don’t have a pool, and I can’t swim. I don’t go boating or fishing. I also don’t wear my Rolex watches in water. I have 4 in Oyster cases, The newest of which is 30 years old. I have serviced it 4 times in 30 years, and water resist test it every time. It is only ever exposed to water when I remove the bracelet for cleaning at which time the watch gets scrubbed with a moist tooth brush, then a quick rinse, and dry. My 50 year old Oyster Perpetual Air-King Date, likewise. The other two Oysters are much older, and are never worn, though I could wear them.

1000m 100m and 50m

Even the Speedy ( for a couple of years after a service )

This one see’s a lot of water, swimming nearly daily for 10 years. Pressure tested and seals changed every battery change. (200m)

This one can live in water (1000m) Seals changed every 2-3 years

I think that is the first Speedmaster I've ever seen underwater.
Great to see that.

I believe the appropriate phrase here with this thread is “opening up a can of worms”

My Planet Ocean has been in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean a few times. And one of my Speedmasters has seen some bathtub submersion due to my son enjoying occasionally washing some of my watches. And my Tintin regularly gets soaked when downpours hit while I am out at job sites or meetings (this happened again just last week).

There have been some pretty abrupt storms in the last week. I was caught in a downpour recently while meeting a few friends in a park near my apartment. The watch I was wearing was a 2639-10 from 1954 that I’m not eager to get wet.

Luckily, one of my friends was returning a watch he had borrowed, and he gave it to me in a ziplock bag. So I was able to put the watch I was wearing in there to stay dry.

Wear my Panerai PAM000 to swim at the beach every now and then with no issues, but that’s probably expected.

Both my 2254 and 16570 get wet. I was recently swimming in a fast flowing river with my 16570 to accompany my dog for a swim.

Use as intended.

Sea, showers, pools or rivers - the watches come with me.

Took me two years to track it down, it’s the original factory bracelet for this model, made by JBC.

It sat on eBay for a bit at a high price and I made an fair offer- he accepted. Another immediately popped up on eBay on a cheap diver and apparently others knew what it was and it got bid up so I didn’t grab that one too, I should have- I’m two links short. But I have a long JB clasp that works on it so I can use it while I wait for links or another parts bracelet.
