For the uninitiated among us, what were the original dimensions of the first Carrera?

36mm. Don't know the thickness, but not much.

I have and that’s an exception

What do you mean by an exception?

Yeah, these are going to be thicker than a manual-wind vintage model. That's just the way it is. And it seems that thin movements are the territory of the higher maisons, like AP, JLC, Patek etc. Personally, I think this is an awesome effort and I'm voting with my dollars....

Hmm, pretty nice at 6.5k. Seconds register at 6'o clock turns me off but other than that, quite nice...

Now, if they would re-do the 2446 Autavia without date window!!!!

I am going to talk to my local boutique tomorrow. If this will really be 39mm I think I am all in for this one 👍 Any infos on how limited this one will be?

If the size is correct and their promise to deliver immediately is true, I might start 2020 with 1) a new 2) modern 3) TAG Heuer 😲 and it's even more scary to know that the second watch will still not be an Omega 😵‍💫 (unless unexpected surprise)

If it's true about the manual wind movement, and the proportions are quite true to the original (and the price is reasonable), this is a contender as a first 2020 purchase.

The cream lume doesn't bother me, it compliments the silver dial nicely!

Specs I know / have been confirmed either to me or elsewhere:

39mm case, stainless steel.
Heuer-02 movement. (With a rotor - almost certainly not manual-wind)
LE of 1,860 pieces
$6450 MSRP (US)
Perhaps May delivery

@eugeneandresson those are the concrete bits I know, nothing else.

@kov my impression is that the immediate delivery concept will probably begin with introductions later in the year. But nothing set in stone yet...

has to be like 10-11mm

for me. . .vintage carreras just one of the all time classic sports chronos EVER, particularly the black dial variants

i tried a fragment re-issue the other day and the thickness just made it a nonstarter

i do like the look of this re-issue but would get zero wrist time for me at 39mm

Price is good, but needs to be more faithful in dimensions and movement style. Breitling 1959 Navitimer reissue is the textbook way to do it.

Thickness-wise it'll be 14.5mm I believe - same as the Carrera Fragment.

Yes, it'll be an automatic Heuer 02.

Where did you get the MSRP from? Haven't seen that info anywhere yet, nor the number of pieces being produced.

@abrod520 ... no variations? Bracelet? That’s a compelling argument to try a Heuer again 🤦

Don't know, but this is a limited-edition model so likely not. Rumors are though that it's not the only one.... and that's just for 2020 😉

For me, 36mm is a special-occasion-only size. 39mm is more of an everyday elegant size on my wrist, so I'm really excited about this one. That's why I say that what I look forward to the most is seeing how the perfect design of the 36mm works when upsized to 39.

As for thickness, well, you take what you get. I tried on a Fragment a few weeks ago and wasn't bothered by it.

Breitling 1959 Navitimer reissue is the textbook way to do it.

Easy to do when your original was 42mm - wouldn't be many buyers for a new 36mm Carrera outside of us nerds.

MSRP from the TAG boutique I placed a deposit with 😉 LE numbers from the caseback renders I've seen.

Thanks for the info! I really like this piece, but saw in the New York Times article that TAG Heuer plans to roll out a bunch of new watches at Baselworld: "This year, TAG Heuer marks its 160th anniversary, focusing activities around its most commercially successful product, the Carrera sports chronograph. The brand plans to present one limited-edition piece in Dubai, but hold most of its key launches for Baselworld. 'Carrera is a huge part of our turnover, and the new collection will be a huge launch for us,' Mr. Bianchi said."

Any sense on whether they might be introducing a two-register version or a panda? I might save my powder for that...

remember. . no bezel so i find 39mm to wear much larger than a 40mm watch with a bezel. same dynamic with a rolex millgauss

i wear my vintage carreras all the time . . the thickness for me is impossible to get over

Can’t improve on perfection, but I’m happy more will get an opportunity to wear a Classic design.

I have no information about any other planned models aside from one idea that they're kicking around (not even in prototype phase yet), and it's neither of those nor as interesting.

Thanks for posting.
Looks good and makes me curious.😉

I think, still a great watch: Tag Heuer Carrera 1964 Re-edition CS3110 from 1996 with manual-wind Lemania 1873

Across the Dial: 35.0 mm
Lug-To-Lug: 43.8 mm
Thickness: 13.0 mm
Between the Lugs: 18.0 mm

Great article comparing vintage watch and the re-edition from 1996
