Until she starts wearing yours of course. see above the story of that Tudor Ranger.

When she moves on to the Airking and decides the Tudor Ranger is beneath her, will you please pass it along this way? 馃槈

The Cartier has had a long run. If you want to geek out, research the history of the model and find the more intersting of them or best movement etc- that way you can feel like your getting her something horologicaly special and not just a Cartier Tank.

There are so many choices. I'll list a few:

New/Current:
Cartier Panthere
Omega Constellation
Longines DolceVita (similar look to the Tank Solo)
Longines St-Imier (has diamond options)
Cartier Ballon Bleu
Rolex DateJust
JLC Reverso

Vintage/Pre-Owned:
Rolex Cellini
Cartier Tank Basculante
Omega/Rolex/JLC in a jewelry/bracelet size

I bought my wife an Omega Constellation. She likes smaller watches, so it's only a 26mm (IIRC) quartz model, but she loves it!

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Seems like the consensus is go Cartier or go vintage. Obviously for a purchase this big I will take her to try each piece on in the metal. Whatever she picks, that鈥檚 what she鈥檒l get. Now that I think about it, going for the Cartier (the quartz movement version) would leave enough in the budget for a 34mm vintage Seamaster or similar. Could be a round about way of adding another piece that I could wear. 馃榾

What did you end up getting for your wife? I agree Cartier was/is the way to go.

These are my 3 Cartiers. Tank (quartz), Pasha and Ballon Bleu 馃槈

I have thought about the same question 5 years ago.

In the end I bought a watch she really loves, but never wears because she's loving it too much...

Many options available, so certainly not an easy choice. That said, from experience I can recommend this little gem. My GF loved it so much she fell for it while we were at an OB collection a watch for myself...

Hi All

So my wife actually ended up deciding on a white/pearl dial Aqua Terra. Quartz movement version. With the savings vs the Cartier we also ended up getting her a nice pendant necklace from the David Yurman boutique a couple doors down from the AD. She ended up deciding the Cartier looked a bit too formal/dainty for an only watch. It鈥檚 next on her wishlist now. Looks like I may have succeeded in giving her an expensive new hobby 馃榾

Glad she got to pick out what she wanted- that is the best way to get into the hobby. She does know that the tank comes in a variety of sizes I assume- anniversary coming perhaps?馃槜
