At 18 years old. If it lasts more than a month I'd be surprised. As you said. She doesn't wear a watch

Ask her what she wants before you buy something she won't wear

@norb1967 if you are a member on TZ-UK with sales corner access, someone is selling 2 Geneves that looks honest for £250 and £300 respectively. Those fit the bill on type and price IMO.

I picked up a Ladymatic for my wife a few years ago for around $150 and it's still keeping great time. She wears it everyday.
I took my time looking for it and made sure the movement was clean.

Thanks all for your replies. It sounds like I might be better placed to stick with a more modern watch… I agree that from a servicing point of view a simple 70s or 80s quartz one would be better,

For that budget range you could find a nice Seiko 7A28 or 7A38. 80's Seikos are what got me interested in watches again at that age. You mentioned this is for a young lady but she may appreciate the sport look of them and they are not very big opposed to more modern chronographs.

I’d say quartz is your best bet. Maybe if you’re lucky you can find a 80s constellation Manhattan in a smaller size at that price point.
