·I have the newest no-date sub - it’s the only dive watch I own. Separately, I have an affinity for GMT/24-hr complications, and own (too) many but don’t own a Rolex GMT.
I wear the hell out of the no-date, as my “beater.”** With a single caveat, I love the watch: its simplicity, its legibility, it’s zero-concerns for water, and - surprisingly - I’ve found the bezel timer to be 90%+ of the timing functions I need (timing pasta, workouts, toddler time-outs).
The single caveat others have mentioned is the ubiquity of the sub in modern “watch guy” banker culture. However, that is a criticism I think leveled equally at both the sub and GMT.
You won’t go wrong with either, but the no-date Sub gets my vote. I do second the notion of purchasing the GMT, living with them both for a short spell, and then deciding if only one is to be kept.
** I recognize the awkward insinuation of having a modern Sub as a “beater,” but when offered the watch I purchased it on the philosophy that I would wear it as Subs were meant to be worn, and for tasks/days to which I don’t subject my other watches.
