If you were going to own only one watch to wear; between a new Sub no date or a GMT Master Pepsi, which one would you choose?

i would go with the modern Sub, sinse its less flashy and i personally dont see any use of the GMT function.
i do like the bidirectional bezel though as it would be more practical in the day to day use.
do you mind sharing, why do you ask? whats your preference?

Sub no date -> 0 complications
GMT -> date & GMT

What's more important to you?

If I could get the GMT at retail prices, then that for sure. If I had to pay Grey market prices, than neither.

I had such a decision. Since I had high travel, strange hours, global job at the time and we were still on the Blackberry platform, I actually wanted and used the GMT. At the time the only option was Cerachrome Black. It’s a very tough versatile watch. Of course the prices had not reached the current level of insanity, so now if you want Pepsi, save up. Otherwise the sub is probably more “affordable”. I have a 1675 to scratch that itch, also purchased before the current craziness. Now of course I Phone or Galaxy make easy time zone calculation.

Having owned a fair amount of both, GMT no question.
More comfortable, more versatile in terms of dress/casual, more practical, the diversity of inserts is a really fun aspect of the watch, and IMO just a better looking watch.

Had the new no-date sub and sold it. Have the new Pepsi on oyster bracelet and it’s a keeper. If Rolex were to de-bulk the gmt case, I’d queue for one of those.

I ask because I was offered a GMT from my AD. It would require me trading in my Sub

The AD is making you trade in your sub to get the GMT?

do it.

Every person on the planet has a sub (or six). If I see one more sub, I’ll start wearing Apple Watch just to stand out.

Both tbh. You shouldn’t trade in the sub. Make some moves so that you can keep both. The GMT is harder to get. Thus in any case, GMT wins. Buy it first, buy the sub second.

Honestly, I have both the modern Sub as well as the BLNR… and both are really great in different ways.

At this moment, if I was really pushed to only keep one, I think I would keep the Sub as it is just a simpler design, with brushed bracelet and micro-adjustment clasp that provide much more flexibility to achieve a perfect fit on my wrist.

You just can’t go wrong with either though.

I never trifle myself with such choices. When I'm unsure, I merely send one of the house staff out to purchase one each of whatever I'm considering.

Have you considered trading the wife?
Be careful… he may end up with neither watch, nor a house.
