Strong auction result for Constellation

Amongst generally weak auction results in recent months (IMO), I was interested to see this one go for $3,600 USD. So a question for the Connie gurus, is there something in particular about this model/reference, or just a combination of desirable features and strong condition, i.e. an example with a lot going for it.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.
Desirable reference and great condition.
Has everything going for it.

I am not Constellation guru but that is a beautiful watch. My uneducated guess is model and condition played a big part because the case, dial, and hands all look lovely and crisp to me.

It is really nice, although it has some bite marks on the lower left lug if I'm being picky, and the seller didn't attempt to hide them. I've been generally skeptical of comparisons between Constellation and Datejust valuation, but perhaps the gap is narrowing. Of course, one auction result can be an outlier.

I was following that one too and thought the final price was on the strong side. It is a very nice example but not perfect. The dial exhibits some bubbling, which personally would put me off, and the lower right lug has visible scratches (which I would mind less than the dial bubbles). But it seems to fit the pattern that good examples of Connies can reach quite high prices in Japan these days.

I don't see the dial bubbling on these photos, but my eyes aren't what they used to be. If it's visible, though, that would put me off as well and the price is clearly on the high side. Minor scratches on the case and lugs wouldn't bother me.

Check at 6 and around 10, 11 o'clock and inside the Omega logo.

I didn't see the bubbles until you mentioned it, but to be fair I didn't look incredibly closely once I saw how high the bidding was going.

Pie-pan Constellations with white gold/rhodium markers and hands have always brought strong premiums.

Well, apparently the winner had second thoughts. The watch is up for auction again.

Not surprised to see this - bidder had auction fever, which is endemic on eBay and other platforms.

There is no jab for it, though previous bouts with no recourse to cancel the bid are somewhat effective in preventing recurrence.

It's in Japan, as @iamvr mentioned. If you can't find it, shoot me a PM.

that is very beautiful watch! It is so out of my price range but still would try to search it also to see how will end at least. if it is relisted there is also solution that seller didnt accept bidder or where he was. I know that could be problem with Japan sellers (and I see right now, seller did write only one solution for shipping, so big chance he would not send it international or deal with proxy)

That case with those markers had to be the most desirable Constellation combination. String price but I can see why as condition is pretty good.

I also thing being a no lume version bumps the price as a number of collectors seem to avoid radium.

I would have thought that dog-leg lugs would have pushed it up even further but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts on that?

This one has lyre lugs and not dog-leg.

What about the crown - shouldn't it be a decagonal one?
