This one ended earlier today, I wasn’t bidding but followed it curiously nonetheless. Now, my perception so far was a (very) rough price range for 18k WG Vintage Constellations as follows: C-Shapes: By far the most common. ~4-5k 60s Connies (with Doglegs commanding the highest premium): ~6-8k 50s Connies, 2852s etc: 25k+ So I was kinda surprised to see this 168.006 to go crazy, finishing at ~13.8k€/14.5k$. It’s the less loved date version of the dogleg Connies; it’s got obvious spotting of the dial; it shows clear traces of wear. The WG buckle surely caused a significant part of the premium as they’re rare as hen’s teeth, but I find the result surprising nonetheless. Anyone here the lucky winner / thoughts on the piece?
I have a hard time telling if these diamond dials are original or not but the case and buckle are pretty amazing regardless. A redialed white gold 2852 went for about the same money several years ago at Christies from memory.
Yeah, WG 50s Omegas Are crazy money. I recall a hooded lug Seamaster with bracelet going for 32k about a decade ago. And it hasn’t gotten better since then. I thought 60s examples were more “affordable”, despite the diamond indices, but looking at the 5-figure price tag of this imperfect example I’m not so sure.
Overall condition less the dial spotting is pretty amazing, probably worn for special occasions (tuxedo) and not much else. I think the days of affordable solid gold Omegas has past, especially anything "different". Not a huge fan of gold personally (white or rose would be exceptions) so perhaps it's time to let some more go.
I remember seeing c-case WG connies frequently for around 3k in Japan. Now I spend less time searching for watches. But 14k for this watch is bizar. I dont think it's a attractive watch.
Nice watch and I suppose when you have exhausted all the €4.5K-€7K yellow gold Constellations then this isn't too much of a step up to bag(gutte) something pretty rare.
It’s my first time seeing these hour-markers. I have a question, is this watch originally come without the minute tracks?
Based on personal observation over the years, most of the original factory diamond dial Seamasters and Constellations seem to have no minute/seconds track. Probably not wanting to take away from the elegance of the diamonds themselves.
It’s back on the market, apparently the winner decided against it after the auction was over. Your chance to bring this piece into OF property.
