I'm surprised this watch didn't go higher than $4850. Would have bid on it myself except for the wear near the crown. Otherwise, appears to be a very nice example and expected it to sell for multiples of the winning bid. What am I not seeing?

Do you know what the buyer's premium was? Maybe around 20%? I can't read the description, but the hands and dial are possibly re-lumed.

I'm not sure there is wear near the crown - it's just filthy.

I have linked pics here for posterity. I would be curious to hear others opinions on the lume. Anyone able to see it in the flesh?

Judging by the overall condition, along with the magnificent bezel with matching patina to the dial & hands + that thick layer of yummy yummy wrist cheese, I would say that this watch is all original and in stunning condition.
    Someone got a steal!

Exactly what I was thinking except there is a small dent in the case where the crown sits, which may affect sealing. Probably not an issue from an investment perspective, but I wanted to wear the watch and thought there was a good chance it could be made water resistant given the overall condition until I noticed that. Would be nice to have at least one vintage watch that's water resistant!

Thanks to all who have contributed their knowledge of Seamaster 300s. Gave myself a crash course over the weekend.

Looks more like a reflection of the crown to me. That is a hard place to make a dent!

Not a dent from the wearer but by a hack watchmaker, although the movement screws look clean.... I think you're right about it being a reflection of the crown and crown gasket. Thanks for ruining my day! lol

Yeah, exactly. Can't wait to see this one at Phillips in 5 years with an Extract and a high estimate of $50K.

Isn't it beautiful? :) Kind of surprised they presented it in that condition as it would probably be a turn off to non-collectors.

The one on Bukowski´s is a great piece. An overhaul and a correct crown, and the buyer will have a really sweet SM300. I was looking at it because I have one of the same reference, but with a badly scratched back. So I drooled some over the Bukowski specimen immaculate, unworn back

Someone paid 6k$, which is hardly a bargain, but a good buy IMO

Is this not the correct Naiad crown?

Crown is original. This whole watch looks 100% original and a very well preserved example.

    Judging by the overall condition.
    Untouched pristine movement.
Beautiful and super well preserved bezel with patina shade which matches the dial & hands 100%
    Perfect caseback.
    Super sharp case,

I would say that this watch is 100% untouched, and probably the deal of the year at that price.
