Strap Mishap: what is this?

I recently ordered an omega strap from Switzerland (eBay)
What I thought I was getting:

And what arrived:

Now I’m no expert. But I think there’s a difference there. Also I am very suspicious of this buckle. It seems far to fragile to be genuine.
(Yes I did read and enjoyed the essay on omega buckles)

I was looking forward to the blue strap. Quite dissatisfied now. I’m about to start my first attempt to get money back/get my original item.

any advice dealing with eBay/eBay sellers is welcome

I'd 1st try and reach a resolution with the original seller. If that doesn't work then file a dispute with eBay. If the tops pics are what were shown in the auction and they don't match up with what was received, well, then you should have some pretty good legs to stand on.

Good luck 👍

Write to the seller and ask for a full refund including all of your shipping costs. Item is not the item you ordered.

In the future and until you gain experience, only deal with sellers that have at least 99% positive feedback.
(And even after you gain experience be very careful with sellers who might have less- why? Is there a pattern or only one mishap?)

Give the seller a chance to make good, but if they start to give you a song and dance, file a claim with eBay immediately. Item not as described.

There is always the chance that the wrong strap was sent. Write to seller and ask for information on why strap doesn't match the one you bought. Take it from there.

Yeah, that is so obviously wrong it may have been as simple as sent the wrong strap- I would approach kindly first- hey, must have been a mistake.

I felt these stats were confidence inspiring.
That’s why I shelled out ~$200 for a NOS strap 😟

Looks like a mailing mistake, hopefully the seller will rectify the situation.

Yeah, I’m sure there is someone on the other side of the world opening an package and thinking- what the hell is this blue thing?!?!

I’ve packed up multiple items at the same time and almost mixed them up- it happens. Perhaps you could work it out with the seller that you ship that strap to the rightful recipient, the guy who has your strap ships it to you, and he reimburses you both for the cost of mailing them. Would be the ideal scenario.

I once had a similar situation, very similar in fact.

A watch movement shipped from Switzerland to Australia.

It was the wrong one! I messaged the seller and after investigation, they confirmed that I had received another buyer's movement and mine had been sent to that buyer in the US.

At the seller's request, we exchanged emails and address details and I shipped his movement to the US and received mine a week or so later.
The seller re-imbursed both of us for shipping.

I've had a watchmaker contact me saying that he by accident had sent my 50s Omega to another customer and that customer's Rolex to me 😁

On the end I had to mail the Rolex to the other guy...

Mine was just the opposite, I ordered a high grade "Elabore" finished movement and got a basic version, so I'm glad the buyer in the US came through, the price difference was relatively substantial.

Am sure the Rolex owner was very relieved 😜
(and the watchmaker too)

Those stats look very OK, I too would suspect it’s an honest mistake as others have already said.

Update:
I contacted Seller and they were very apologetic. Correct strap en route. Seller has offered to reimburse for postage of item back to Switzerland.

Thanks all for the input/comments 👍
