Strange Omega Seamaster professional dial

Hi all,

long time lurker here.

I have been given an Omega seamaster professional from my uncle who used to be in the military. Its not in my hands yet but will be in the coming week. I took a quick glance at it some time ago but couldn't quite make out what type it is so was hoping to get some help from the experts on this forum.

Alot of this will be off memory but:
- its a modern Omega seamaster professional quartz - blue bezel
- however, the dial doesn't have the "wave" pattern which I found strange when I held it in my hands.
- then most odd is lume markers are actually black not lume.

I wish I took pics of it when he showed it to me but here we are. I'm hoping I can upload some pics when I get it eventually but does the above description ring a bell at all?

My desktop research suggested it could be the japanese variation which looks like this given no wave pattern but the lume is black.... very odd and the hands are still the commonly found "skeleton" style.

Appreciate any thoughts.

I think most people’s thoughts are “we’re going to need to see pictures of the watch”…

It’d make a massive difference to the help and advice you could get.

I totally understand. I will update this thread once I get my hands on it.

It does appear not a common model given no one seems to have any thoughts thus far (not a criticism, btw). Bear with me.

Edit OMG this is hilarious. I was just thinking dammit, in a way I should have kept that watch when I sold off a bunch this winter. I just checked and I still own it hahaha 2251.50

I've yet to come across a SMP with black lume from the past models. No waves yes, but black lume, no. It has been over a week, got the watch yet?

No me neither but it might just be heavily water damaged or fungal tritium...

I never seen this variation of this watch and I will wait for the pictures with the watch to see more details. I am sure that once you will have the watch and be able to check the case reference it will be easier to find similar watches.

thanks for the additional input. In transit now - being shipped from the U.S. I will post it once I get my hands on it.

It appears to be a 2541.80 with a very odd dial and second hand (modded?).

thanks - all the hands are white (the seconds hand is also white, might just be the angle of the shot) as well which isn't typical either. The black indices are gloss black - definitely not a result of mold / discolouration. Can also confirm the dial has no waves - its a darkish blue.

Anyway, looks like no one really knows - might have to send it to Omega and see if they have answers.

What is the serial number on the case?

Looking at the dial magnified, it doesn't appear to be original. The printing is quite sloppy...

The hands are crudely painted:

I'm no an expert. Doesn't look genuine as far as dial and hands go.

Doesn't look right to me, but our man Archer is weighing in so you are on your way
to getting it sorted...

As above, that doesn't look military, it looks junk I am sorry to say. No way that printing is real and the so called black plots just look washed (ie scraped). I once purchased a fake SM300m dial from ebay. It had been done in India and had non luminous green compound. It was a lot more believable than this and ended up in the bin 5 mins after it arrived. Send Al the serial (by pm if you like) and he can maybe confirm the bad news without splashing out the money for an extract which will inevitably give you disappointment.

thanks for the replies all. The problem with taking pics using the latest iphone is it actually makes the printing look like crayon drawing...

Here's some pics with the dial dismantled now - again, the photos still show that "crayon" texture but the printing is actually crisp in real life under a magnifier and it seems to line up perfectly (comparing spacing, text, font, etc) with other 2541.80 seamasters of the similar era...

Well it certainly looks better out the case I’ll admit! Amazing what a difference the crystal made.

Hands were painted for sure, so I suspect this is not some rare dial, just one that has been modified. Again if you want more details, send me the serial number...
