I thought it to be common knowledge or agreement that we are allowed to post questions/confirmation of authenticity or vetting of a watch on a sales post on the forum? (was that the post that was deleted?)

Anyways, I think the forum has changed quite abit and there were numerous threads that were closed regarding certain watches under scrutiny and it suggested that either dealers were complaining to mods/owners of the forums that what we discussed and shared might come to light and de-value the watch or that folks with a vested interest had some form of influence over the forum.

(anyone remember the ultraman debate?? lol)

I had always thought OF to be fairly objective but it is what it is.
That doesn’t really sound right to me as we’ve even gone to the extent having to get legal advice to repel threats and demands regarding watch discussions and the most contentious one I know of is still up to this day. What I will say is people can often try to do it in the for sales thread itself which is against the FS rules and we’ve often cleaned up those threads and asked people to take it to the vintage omega forum to create a new thread discussing it. There are also some cases where a guy will knowingly go “is this perfect mint condition ck2998 that I’m considering selling (pm me) real?” Which us just a way some people try to take take the piss by holding a silent auction by pm since they don’t have the 200 posts to make a listing. Those get deleted too along with potentially the persons account if they’re a new user taking the piss as its also a giant fraud risk.

The squirrel era was indeed “interesting”.

You can say that again. Create the drama, complain about the drama, and then leave.

It is generally. People have short memories about how heated some topics have gotten here over the years...

we know from the eagles that everything all the time doesn't work so well.
a big "thank you" to the mods (and members) for keeping the focus on watches.
sure is nice to have a place to duck into and escape now and again.

This place is going downhill... Such a shame!!! You should all be ashamed of yourselves for letting it happened.

I don't have any... But I'm going to the Rolex Forum anyway, I heard it was a haven of peace with humble users with casual watches!

Be damned all of you!

In better times (and I'm confident they're ahead), I'd like the opportunity to meet many of you in person and share a drink and good fellowship. (And some fantastic watches!)
A wholeheartedly agree, my friend! I'd be there!
Having strong opinions is a sign that a person cares, is thoughtful and alive. Having the same opinions as everyone else is boring. So when there are bright and engaged people we can expect strong feelings and disagreements.
Very well said.
I just snorted coffee out my nose. Just thought you’d like to know
Interesting...I always thought snorting to be an inward action...😗 (snark dosage)

Ok here's my opinion that I don't expect anybody to care about: the sooner people learn (and teach their offspring) that expecting people to care about your opinion is both arrogant and foolish, the sooner the world might cool down a bit and people might look out for their own best interests rather than spending every waking minute worrying about what others think of them.

On this forum, I've found some truly wonderful people. The funny thing is, I know none of them by name but I feel we share a friendship. As a generality, people here are knowledgeable (some exceedingly so) and courteous; ready to offer encouragement, condolences, advice, genuine concern, and help to those in need. I regret that I am not knowledgeable enough about watches to offer any help in this regard.

When my life went through a tough patch last year and I reached out to the OF community, the group offered me so much great words of advice, comfort, and encouragement that I honest-to-God screenshotted them all so I can look back on that time and be reminded that the world is full of good people.

Is the forum changing? I'll answer that question with one of my own: Do you want the forum to stay the same forever? We're all human (well, jury is out on @Archer...he might just be a supercomputer full of data), and humans change; their tastes and opinions change, their goals and beliefs change. Why should we expect things to stay the same forever?

Side note: it is cringe to see some of the brand new members upload a photo of a watch and ask what it's worth without so much as introducing themselves and browsing the threads for some info first. I can only imagine how annoying that might be to someone that actually knows about vintage watches or specific movements etc (again, not me).

Thank you all for being here. The time I get to spend interacting with you all is truly cherished as I spend so much time alone and travelling. Logging-on and catching up on posts is almost like coming home to a late dinner with the family and chatting about our day. On that note, I hope you're all having a pleasant evening!

I'm a fan of both - good bourbon is a staple here! You're welcome anytime.

I’m here because I won an EBay auction in 2012, and wondered why there were zero bidders after my winning bid. This struck me as a little odd and the good people here showed me exactly why the shills and I were the only bidders.
And so my watch collecting began.
Since then sometimes I have been more active on the forum, and at others less so, either way I am much more inclined to read than to post.
And threads such as this come along every now and then and kind of make me smile. In my humble OF does not change too much, some people come and go, but it remains basically the same. People getting together to chat mostly about Omega and other watches, occasionally there are keyboard fights but I think this is normal. And again, quite amusing from the outside as long as I do not get emotionally involved.
Mods, keep up the great work, and if you do feel the need to kill a thread so be it. Your forum, your rules.

I haven't been here super long, but to me, there has always seemed to be some modicum of drama present on the forum.

Possibly true, but it is part of each and every internet forum/board. In an overall picture, a total number of all dramas and 1st world problems is lower than anywhere else, so I think ΩF distinguish oneself in the positive way.

I recently joined a FB group about mushroom foraging/knowledge and it is by far the most toxic online environment I have ever frequented. Some of the women there are insanely quick to anger and the tone is downright spiteful at times.

Over fυcking mushrooms 🤦

I haven't noticed anything going the wrong way here on OF lately, if anything I thought it was getting a bit boring. Guess I didn't look in the right threads!
