Springbar Question...

I have the '57 Trilogy Seamaster and want to (finally) try the NATOs that came with it...

just use the bars that are holding the stock bracelet or is there some springbar juju I need to be aware of?

Asking mainly because I've searched here and found a thread where someone said for a NATO you may require a different length bar than the bar in your current bracelet (which makes zero sense to my brain because while I'm swapping a bracelet for a NATO I am not altering the width of the lugs ~ be a cool superpower though) and another post whereupon someone else said "for NATOs you *must* use curved bars".

Why would they include nato straps with the watch and not special springbars for use with said Nato straps?

Not a clue, but I am seeing more than a few posts claiming that a NATO should use curved bars and a slightly longer bar than for a bracelet.

Omega has you covered. Unscrew the cap on the aluminum spring bar tool in the Trilogy kit and you will find new, longer springbars for use with the extra straps.

Another example is the Ed White 321 which still comes in the old style Speedmaster suitcase, along with the extra NATO straps. The Ed White has a 19mm lug (like the Trilogy), but Omega provides separate 068ST2207 springbars in the kit for use with the NATO straps. The 068ST2207 are the recommended size for 19mm straps.

My Trilogy had 2 extra sets of the 2206 in the springbar tool which are the same length as the ones on the bracelet, so ordered additional 2207's at the AD.

Spoke to the OB nearest me earlier this evening and was met with a rather stern manager who said, "Sir, I have been this boutique's manager for nearly six years and I've never ever heard that there is even the tiniest difference between a spring bar for a bracelet and a spring bar for a strap be it NATO or otherwise."
He was downright snippy.
I told him I would gather a part's number for a call on Friday and he replied, "Oh, I can't wait."
Sarcastic turdface.
Now I am armed with that number and ready for a face-off.

You should make him try and install the longer spring bar into the bracelet, it’s practically impossible - then he’ll realise what a turdface he is being. Just remember to not use your watch for this as he’s likely to scratch the case to buggery in the process 😉

oh, I bet he would force the longer springbar in there and feel perfectly smug doing it— then you wouldn’t be able to get it out!

I know lots of people who have been doing all kinds of things for much longer than 6 years and still don’t know shit. Myself included. Good reminder to try and stay humble.
