I drove one of these round the sporting layout yesterday.
I might get this out the garage tomorrow if it's sunny.
I miss my z4 2.5s had to keep the revs up even making right hand turns. Just fun all the time. I only periodically regret getting an e46M3 and not a Z4MC.
I only had the 3.0 for a year or so. Never driven a 2.5 but in this one the tramlining was quite bad on the stock run flats, and although I never had the "sticky steering" problem, I always pressed the "sport" button right after starting the car to make the steering feel heavier and more direct. Over any sort of rough road it was a handful and you had to hang onto the wheel with both hands - tough if you needed to shift (mine was manual).
It was so bad at times that I could never imagine having M power in that car, but when the chance to test drive one came up, I gave it a try. Well you could not possibly imagine the difference. No run flats on the M, so they gave you a tire repair kit (foam and compressor) and the ride and handling were light years better. Also no electric steering, so good old rack and pinion. After about 3 minutes behind the wheel I looked at my wife and said "I'm getting this!" and I did.
Still miss being able to drop back to 3rd, hit the sport button, and punch it...my little 128 is still fun, but not hat kind of fun. Very much looking forward to the M2.
Sincerely, all the best.
I love entrepreneurs, even if I can't spell it correctly.
Just flew in from Detroit last night after the General Motors presentation. Was an amazing experience - there were representatives from Samsonite, High Sierra, and get this, the guy who came after me had luggage samples with prancing horses on them - it was the goddam fitted luggage maker for Ferrari! To be in such distinguished company was itself an honor and validation for what I've been doing for a living - I was certainly the smallest company out there that day. I felt like it was a music festival with Aerosmith, U2, the Rolling Stones, and me, the college band from Nowhereville USA. But dammit, we played our hearts out!
How did I do? Well, High Sierra which came in after me was shuffled in and out in 15 minutes, and probably only me and Ferrari guy could talk about how our products could be relevant to GMs cars. They didn't even bother sitting for my powerpoint, they just went up stage and picked up and inspected my samples, asking me questions. I probably will not get the whole contract, but they seem to be keenly interested in at least some of my products. Having at least one of my goods as an option when you go "configure your vehicle" on the Corvette/Caddy site would be an incredible achievement in itself.
Congrats! Even a partial contract would probably be an overwhelming amount of production - the Corvette may not be a best-seller at GM's overall level, but they still sell what, 50k a year or so?
Besides, even if you don't buy the luggage straight from GM, I'm sure owners could always give you a call anyway 😉
