so, problem solved. as suggested, this great chronograph seems to be very voltage sensitive !!!! tried 3 different battery makers, before everything is fine again. a fresh VARTA did it. no dramas, just the right battery neede. thanks for all replies. kind regards. achim

Glad it worked out. We should have also given you the customary advice about being sure not to loose the battery current contact spring. Easy to miss, easy to loose. Looks like you did OK on your own though.
