Speedy Reduced: setting the time - clockwise or counterclockwise

Hi all,

A noob question here. I have a Speedy Reduced 3510.50.00 with ETA 2890-A2.

When setting the time, does it have any importance to the mechanics of the watch if I turn the hands clockwise or counterclockwise? I heard that on some watches it is important to have that in mind.

Hope it makes sense & merry Christmass to all,

Thank you

It doesn’t really matter but there is a lot of slop in the mechanism of the piggyback chromo watches and synchronising minutes and second can be tricky so do what works best for you. I found they can be a minute out sometimes and you have to compensate.

One way of reducing backlash in the train that I use is to advance the hands about ten minutes or so past current time, then turn back to current time and set.

Good advice but there are particular issues with the piggyback movements though, they have quirks not seen in 3 handers. As I say above, some (most?) perfectly healthy recently serviced examples once set to the second by back hacking will drop 30secs to a minute immediately so you have to set them a minute fast to get it right. It is like there is a synch delay presumably caused by the chrono module interfacing with the 2892 movement underneath ie exaggerated backlash.

Here is a thread that touches upon it but I have too experienced it:

Thanks everyone.

So I wont make any damage to the movement whether I set the time rotating clockwise or counter clockwise?

I might not have been totally clear in my first post..

None, no difference, you'll be fine either way/either direction.

Had mine for over thirty years and it makes no difference. They are lovely watches. My reduced is my most accurate watch. Basically runs +/- 0 over weeks.

The 321/861/1861 runs like crap. +/- 10s per day is the allowable tolerance!
That is not the reason people rate them...

There are charitable organisations who operate anonymous help-lines to assist those addicted to their Reduced. I have called many times but it's still on my wrist most days 😜
