Speedy Pro white dial vs. Speedmaster Pilot Flight Qualified, discuss

I've owned a number of Speedy Pro's through the years and currently have the newest 3861 hesalite variation. I have a soft spot for white dial chronos, so you can imagine how much I liked the Speedy Pro white dial when it came out. It appears they are now much more readily available at MSRP, and just when I had pretty much decided it would be my next piece, the Pilot Flight Qualified comes out! I've always loved the Flightmaster, so the dial on this new watch is very appealing. What do you see as the pros/cons of each of these watches? Does anyone own both and care to comment? Thanks!

Oh, another one that can't make up his mind on the dial color. Sorry, but no one can help you decide what you will like. Both watches were extensively discussed in their respective threads, so what do you expect to hear? Best is to check them up at an OB and compare. Perhaps the Flightmaster will be too thick and long for your wrist, who can tell...

It's a bit of a blunt response, But it's not really an unreasonable point- this isn't a decision that we can make for you. These are two utterly different watches.

That said, I do understand the point of a fourm like this is ultimately engagement.

Here's my take- I think the white dial Speedmaster is for the purists who REALLY like the "iconism" of the Pro but want it in White. It's a traditional, three register chronograph and also stays true to the original Speedmaster formula and almost every single way that matters with a slightly modern Omega touch with the red accents and glossy dial.

Meanwhile, the flighty is a two register chrono, has a thicker and totally different case, has a completely different dial and sub dial style. While absolutely being a tool watch, it also manages to be playful and non-traditional, despite calling back to the Flightmaster. This combination of both playful but specific tool, puts it in a very niche category vs. The mass appeal, updated traditionalism of the White dial.

Couldn't be said better.

I appreciate the reply. I guess I was hoping to see if anyone owned both of them. I've largely decided on the white Speedy. When I've strayed from the classic handwind Speedmaster models in my collection those watches have never been keepers. I also think the Pilot FQ has really pushed the MSRP, and it's a watch that could easily be selling for 60% of MSRP on the pre-owned market in a couple of years, as a lot of the 2-register Omega's historically have.

Right, exactly. The Flighty is not likely to maintain value and is absolutely not going to wear or present like a Speedy. Maybe you wanted someone to outline the positives of the Flighty for you so you could challenge your decision, because I'd be willing to bet you were already strongly leaning towards the white speedy.

I think of it a bit like The Model T- the Speedmaster Pro itself- "You can have it in any color, as long as it's black." (I realize this is just a bit apocryphal, but...). Until the White speedy came along, there was a lot of truth to this.

Good choice. I like the looks and the idea of the flight q, and it looks great in person, but to me it's too much like a fashion watch with the bright colors. The White one will never get old, and I never tire of looking at it. Or my other three 3861's. Or any of my Omegas for that matter.....

I have to suggest the white dial version, but…Omega has this grey fabric strap with brushed hardware that I’ve seen on the flight qualified Speedmaster. Just arrived today from Omega ECom.
