If you had a choice between the new white speedy or a DSOTM Apollo 8 which would you choose? Or is there another variant you personally like more?

Out of those 2, I'd pick the White Speedy. Ceramic cased watches are a bit like glass cased mobile phones: an answer to a question no-one actually asked. The DSOTM wears quite a lot bigger by the way, that might have a bearing depending on your wrist size. Personally I find a 44mm case far too big.

Assuming you are talking pre-owned market? If I knew I would be able to buy a second one in the future (near future since I can't seem to stop), I'd probably go DSOTM now and wait for the hype beast to drop just a bit on the white speedy. Both are fantastic imho, but also I'm a big dude (genetically and nutritionally) and regularly wear up to 45.5 without if feeling like I've got a 5lb plate on my wrist. 44 is big...so...take that as it is for your situation.

LOL … well said. I would also prefer the White Speedmaster. Of course, in that general price range I might shop around and see if I could find an Ultraman reissue, which I would rather have than either of these.

White Speedy. The DSOTM at 44mm is too large for me.

I'd have thought the same, but surpisingly, it didn't feel as large on me as I thought it would. Maybe it's because I nornally daily a Seamster 300m. It actually feels svelt, most likely because of the lighter ceramic case. I do worry about hitting it on hard surfaces though.

readability is a huge factor for me, this makes the white tail speedy a total winner over the DSOTM

The Apollo 8 which is limited and unique. The White Speedy is hot today but is being mass produced and prices will fall in a year...it's not a limited run watch according to 2 different Omega reps. I'm huge fan of the white speedy but won't buy the hype for now.

That said, if you only have one Omega, the white speedy is more versatile and timeless.

First, are you aware the DSOTM is double the retail of the white speedy?

second, as an owner of both, the DSOTM is not a first and only speedy purchase. This is a 3rd, 4th, 5th maybe but not first or even second.

I don't agree, exactly. If someone is a huge fan of the Speedmaster that might be true, but if they just like Omega and the space program, the Apollo 8 might be the perfect watch specifically for the reasons that you think it shouldn't be a first Speedmaster.

Are you thinking of the current DSOTM Apollo 8 or the Sedna DSOTM? The previous Apollo 8 is only $2000 retail more than the white speedy.

This is true. i do find the hour and minutes hands a little hard to see sometimes because there is so much happening on the dial.

I'd personally go for the white Speedy, but I think I'd rather get the 1957 Trilogy Speedy before either of those. Just a personal preference.

Going by US prices…
DSOTM: $14,300

White speedy: $8,100

Not exactly double, but close. I know you referenced the previous A8, but that is no longer being sold, unless going grey or used.

I can see where another person said that they would see this being a fine first speedy, but for me personally, I just don’t see it being a good first speedy or good first watch. It’s big and busy. I love it, but don’t love the kitsch of the new one Saturn V rocket hands. I think that’s a step too far.

if you’re going to be wearing this to work, with a suit, or really with anything other than a t shirt and jeans, the white speedy is far more classic and versatile. Legibility is also far better.

but if I ever met someone with an A8 and they said it was their only watch I’d definitely think that person is awesome. Hah.

Exactly. That would be a real confident person.

I encourage people to go with what they like. As long as they enjoy it, that's all that matters.

If you mainly dressing casual on the daily, then the A8 will not look out of place. It's a big, bold watch which is a statement piece. If you can pull off the 44+ size and 15+ thick watch, go for it. If you're looking for an everyday watch which will go from casual to dress, the White Dial Speedmaster might fit the bill better. Just depends on your lifestyle.

I tried a few different Speedmaster Racing and the DSOTM, but can't pull the size. Have other Speedmasters so it's a personal preference.
