Hello all,

Like many, I read about the 145.012 " Ultraman" for sale on Hodinkee. Just playing devil's advocate here. If I have a 145.012 that falls in the serial number range, between 26.076.XXX and 26.079.XXX but has a white center chrono hand and I replace it with an orange one, the value of my watch goes up almost 100% so to speak?

Where is it documented that all watches within this serial number range are in fact "Ultraman"? I tried a search on Speedmaster 101.com with no results.

Thanks in advance for the insight.

Cheers,

I think i can hear the sound of all those .012 back cases being unscrewed internationally and simultaneously as I write this! Get ready to see a flood of Ultraman on an Ebay site local to you 馃槈

There is something I don't understand: Wiki says: "Ultraman (銈︺儷銉堛儵銉炪兂 Urutoraman?) is a Japanese Tokusatsu television series that first aired in 1966. Ultraman is a follow-up to the television series Ultra Q, though not technically a sequel or spin-off. The show was produced by Tsuburaya Productions, and was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) from July 17, 1966 to April 9, 1967, with a total of 39 episodes (40, counting the pre-premiere special that aired on July 10, 1966)."

"July 17, 1966 to April 9, 1967"
and
26.076.XXX to 26.079.XXX were produced in mid 1968..

How does a watch produced in 1968 show up in a 1966/67 tv serie?

Wasn't the ultraman released by omega as a hat tip to the show? In which case it would have come to market after the show... if you believe it's real.

IIRC, it was called Ultraman, because the watch actually showed up in the beginning credits

Isn't the Orange hand a unique part?

Has anyone managed to source a correct looking hand and fit it to a Speedmaster?

Yes. That orange chrono second hand is unique for Speedmaster. Other orange second hands that Omega used for other models are to short for the Speedy.

AFAIK

Always wondered about this ultraman. The rare hand must be a hard find.

I don't have time to check now, but I think this appeared in "The return of Ultraman" or something like this, whis is probably 1969-70.

Would be interesting to know when production of "Ultraman" Series started. If it aired in 1966 production could've started as early as 1964/65.

I have an Omega prototype. It is a special "Godzilla" model with a green sweep hand. When you press the chrono button it shoots fire out the dial.

So...I buy a Soccer Timer and sell the orange seconds hand for $4000 and end up with a Soccer Timer at no net cost with an incorrect seconds hand. Seems like a plan.

Just to finish with my devil's advocay and please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it somewhat far fetched that THE defining feature of the Ultraman Speedmaster is an orange central chrono hand that can potentially be interchanged with other calber 321 chronos? Nothing in the case, dial or movement makes it unique or sets it apart from the 145.012 yet it commands an outrageous premium.

Unless it can be shown that this hand is 100% unique (like the lollipop hand of the CK 2998) to this watch and not present on any other cal 321 Omega chronograph I have to question it's historical significance in the vintage Speedmaster world.

Thanks in advance for your comments

Isn't it hard to dispute Mr. Protopapas? He is the Omega Museum Manager.
