Speedmaster Reduced 3510 - interchangeable mechanisms?

Hi, I am new here and have a very newbie question, apologies.
I have had the above watch from new since 2000. However, the watch stopped working. I took it to a repairer who replaced the mechanism.
The question is, could it have been replaced with any cheap ETA-2892-A2 mechanism or would it have to be an Omega branded one due to it having to be mated with the Dubois- Dupras module?
The watch has been returned to the repairer because the new mechanism reportedly had low power, so the repairer is sourcing another.
Many thanks.

Did you open the case back? It would be pretty obvious if it had been replaced with a stock 2892-A2 chrono movement. Generally, these movement are swapped out for a rebuilt one from Omega, anyway, so having it replaced is not a red flag. Do you know if he has an Omega parts account?

Thanks Donn, no I didn't open it before it went back.

Not sure if he has an Omega parts account, I suspect not though.

Others manufacturers used compound chrono movements based on the 2892 plus DD so he could have maybe used anything he could find. This is another example of the fun you get with a poorly Reduced. Realistically your best option is a factory service as some watchmakers cut corners with these when they can’t get the DD parts. Of course if it no longer has an Onega marked movement the factory might get a bit snotty about that.
