Speedmaster Moon Production date and is the caseback correct?

Hi everyone,

I have a Speedmaster Moon watch and have three questions.

1. What is the approximate production date of my watch? Serial number is 7718XXXX
2. Caseback has 145.0022 and 345.0022. Based on the serial number, does the caseback match the production date era?
3. Is there an official Omega email or webpage for this type of information? I've looked at many websites, but my watch must be too new.

The caseback is for a recent Speedmaster and yes it’s too new to be exact. I had a 77.7m 3570.50 from 2010 but yours could be a good while before that as that serial range (77, 78m) seems to be Speedmaster only. At a wild guess circa 2000-2005 but it could be earlier still. Does it have dated papers? The Speedmaster serials jumped to from 48m to 77m in the late 1990s I think.

No, unfortunately no papers. I've owned the watch since about 2010 when I purchased it off of an eBay seller.

There is a hang tag on those photos, that will give you model number. Is it a 3570.50 or the sapphire crystal one? I can’t tell from those. Either way it looks fine for an early 2000s model. What is your concern?

Watch luminova dial dates post 1997 so the “double” case back matches as 145.0022 is the part number for the case. (In the old system) generally these are referred to as 145.0022 or PIC code 3570.50 or rarely 3870.50.

These started in 1996 with Tritium and got luminova in 1997.

345.022 matches the “new” reference for the watch with steel Bracelet which also has the pic code 3570.50 which then became 311.30.42.30.01.005 in 2014.

Another way to look at it was omega made the 145.0022 on leather and the 345.0022 on bracelet as was the numbering system at that time. The watch hits right at a transition in how Omega did reference numbers.

Made from 1997 on aka the current reference.

1861 movement dates it to post 1997 also. The real rare one is this watch with Tritium and the 1861. Very short overlap.

Usually a good idea but that doesn't work beyond 48.39m, which it returns as March 1999, this is clearly a post 1999 77m model, hence my earlier 2000-2005 guesstimate. It is doubtful too many people will have bothered with extracts for early 2000s watches as yet (which is presumably why Eugene's site stops at 1999) but if anyone else with a Speedmaster on ~77.2m with dated papers chimes in we may be able to narrow it down further.

I think it has a hesalite one since it has minor scratches. It's also not super clear like my other sapphire watches. Is there a way to tell the difference?

Hi, my concerns?
1. Not really a concern, but I would like to know the approximate production date of the watch. Not to sell, but for curiosity.
2. I'm getting back into watches and after lots of reading, just wanted to make sure the watch is legit and not a frankenwatch.

As a side note, this watch just recently starting running fast. On my timegrapher, it shows about 1 minute fast. I took a compass and placed it on the watch and it did deflect the compass, but not by much. Magnetism? If not, regulated? It hasn't been serviced for over 8 years.

Thoughts?

I guess mine is from around 2006. I need to take a vacation to the Omega museum in Switzerland. Maybe there I can get more info. I guess I could sell the watch to go on vacation, lol.

If it is running badly it needs a service. Magnetisation is not the only reason why this can happen. It may just not have had any work in years, maybe not ever. 8 years is long enough for a service to be needed. It’s usual for eBay purchased watches to run like crap. Sellers routinely lie about condition. It is best to assume an eBay watch will need a service and factor in the cost

It also sits in a watch box about 99% of the time. Probably not a good existence for a mechanical thing. I'll probably take it to my local watch guy for an evaluation soon. By the way, what is the average accuracy of the 1861 movement?

When healthy they can run at plus or minus a few seconds a day. Its not Chronometer rated though so Omega would consider anything up to +10s a day as acceptable
