Speedmaster Moon descendant - which one to get?

Wouldn’t have been my pick but I guess that’s the beauty of it all, different things make us tick (pun intended).
Enjoy it!

By the way, from the product page of this watch on the omega site-
“Small seconds:
A hand on a sub-dial which tracks seconds typically it completes a full rotation in one minute.”

Typically if I was to buy a watch for $8,750 I would have expected it to always complete a full rotation in a minute, not just when it feels like doing so...
I ”only” ponied up $6999 for it thou, so I only get full rotation 75% of the time...

I finally put down an order. I thought about which was most important to me; the legacy or the looks/function. I decided it was the latter.

I decided to go for a new racing 44,25mm (329.30.44.51.01.001).

Will post pictures as soon as it arrives. 😀

Congratulations delighted that you have chosen your watch, I look forward to seeing the pictures in due course.

The seller was pushing the shipping date even further away, so this order was cancelled. :-/

From what I've seen here on OF the Hesalite is more popular.
Certainly the hesalite... particularly with regard to my other thread re. fingerprints on sapphire crystals. so annoying! admittedly the Speedmaster has a bit of a dome, so finger marks are somehow less pronounced...but go for the hesalite in any case.

So what's the plan now?

I have this oldschool watchmaker friend who have a 1967 original speedy, and I got to feel it and try it. Also, he showed me how easy it is to fix the hesalite when scratched, so now I'm confident to buy a 005.

Good choice.
Yes, I honestly think it is now. My Speedmaster Auto dreams got cured by the Mark II, so .005 seem like a good choice.

Good choice! You've gotten the only true moonwatch and also probably the last one. The next generation that will carry the new movement probably won't be NASA certified anymore.

Omega will certainly not allow its affiliation with NASA to lapse. The NASA certification is too important for marketing purposes. But with the new caliber 3861 likely to eventually replace the current caliber 1861, the present version of the Speedmaster Professional will be the last true descendant of the versions worn on the moon since calibers 321, 861 and 1861 are similar whereas the 3861 is a new design.

I'm sure Omega will throw some millions at NASA to have them certify the watch. I only wonder if a mechanical watch can still pass the tests?

It’s like new, so I’m happy. Only one small issue; I’d need one more link as it’s on the tiny side.

Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy that hesalite glass, it does some funky things in the light!
