I realize there is a premium for "flown" items, and this definitely spent more time in space than most watches do, but I still can't quite wrap my mind around the idea of eve $80K for this, let alone the auction estimate.

I get that it is rare and lived in space for awhile, but $80k for essentially a rare caseback is a bit rich to me.

Those Mir's are a bit contrived. I prefer these, flown? Quite possibly, worn by an astronaut? Definitely. Value for money, Tick!

More authentic, more historical, and rarer!

It’s a NASA issued Speedmaster X-33 used for the Space Shuttle, and ISS missions.

Is the difference between a NASA issued watch and a non NASA issued watch just the case back? Or are there other differences?

the history, the provenance, that it has been used by an astronaut for mission critical training, and possibly flown missions to space, the rarity... er, oh, physical differences? No not really. 👎
