Speedmaster Mark 2 Racing, thoughts on this one?

So a local seller to me (Portland Oregon area) has this listed for under $2900: https://artofthewatch.com/mk2/

I find myself conflicted on this one, the Mk2 case leaves me with mixed feelings (I just don't know how much I like it at all), though the dial is kind of cool.

That said, is there something to know about this one? I see a few on Ebay for quite a bit more money, but don't know enough to know whether this is a good deal or not (or whether I'm really interested either!).

You might want to attach some photos and not just a link.

You should actually call Kelly (AotW) and make sure it’s even still available. I don’t think he’s updated that section of his website in a long time as that watch and the others he has listed, have been listed for several years now. Also note that that mkII has modern service dial and hands. His Instagram is more up to date with what he has for sale.

It’s not local to you, but currently available 👍 And in excellent vintage condition 😎

Ah, good to know, thanks for the heads up! I thought I had seen some stuff move around at one point, but perhaps I was mistaken.

I'm in this strange situation where the Mk2 case either looks awful or really good depending on the photo, so the idea of checking it out in person was attractive 😀

The artoftwatch has a service dial. Compare the colors to Seaborg's original dial.

I did not like the MKII case one bit when I first saw it but it has slowly grown on me to the point where I want one of these. It’s weird like that. I’ve never actually worn one but right now it’s on my short list. Now the Flightmaster case, that’s a different story…

Try before you buy, I couldn’t get on with the Mk2. I found it bulky and it didn’t balance well on the bracelet. Obv YMMV.

That is definitely part of my concern here FWIW. Pictures like Fish's above make me fall for one of these, then I see another picture and have the opposite reaction, so the ability to see it locally at a somewhat interesting price/config was attractive.

There is also a flightmaster nearby (https://watchworkspdx.com/product/vintage-omega-flightmaster/), but those never really do anything for me.

My concerns for the Mk2 go doubly for the Flightmaster. That really is a boat anchor. To rock one of those you need a wide flat wrist.

I have a flightmaster too. The MKII is dainty in comparison if you are wondering how they wear.

I have relatively thin wrists but don’t have trouble wearing my Flightie
