Just to confirm, is the Apollo 8 limited edition or just really rare?

I was told at an AD it was limited edition and that there would be no more produced. If that's the case then I may end up buying the apollo 8 before the Aventurine dial speedy since that's not limited edition.

Just a special edition but not a limited edition.

Ah I see..

So it's not limited at all in production, just rather rare.

I would not even say rare. It was just delayed and now that deliveries are starting it becomes avialable finally. Every Omega Boutique had it in stock that i visited lately. At AD‘s it might be rare still but that will also change over time.

I know Omega has diluted the SpeedMaster brand and more specifically the DSOTM watches, but there's something special about this watch. The movement, the no date, unique dial makes it super interesting IMO.

It seems that when I had the hour marker of the chronograph of my Apollo 8 corrected, a bit of dust got into the watch, as it landed on the hour dial this morning. The result was a pleasant hour in the Omega boutique in Oxford Street, trying on a PloProf, an Aqua Terra, a Bullhead and a Planet Ocean Big Blue whilst the dust was removed. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff in there.

Also, they now have the Apollo 8 sitting there on display, from which I infer no waiting list, so I’d forget paying £10,000 for one, if you were thinking of it. They’re coming.

Yes, they are fab in there aren’t they. It was there today in the window. Tried it on. Lovely, but not my cup of tea (I’ve said that before). For me I prefer the CK2998, and don’t need another speedy with a racing strap.

I’ll be honest, I can’t see these flying out the door at the price but let’s see. I’d definitely consider one at a reasonable discount down the line....

I totally get they’re a polarising watch. It’s my first Speedmaster, probably not my last.

I just bought a Hamilton Flight Timer in mint condition for USD 425 - not something I’d ever have considered paying retail for!

That’s a bit odd I’ve got two mates with deposits down at the boutique here waiting potentially many months for delivery and there are a lot more orders than just them pending

Where are you located? It does seem to be very country based. I ask because not at any of the boutiques I visited in London was there ever any suggestion of a deposit. It was just wait your turn.

After checking in with the boutiques in London I've got to say, they're honestly not rare at all.

I thought they would be but in the span of 3 weeks it seems that every OB has 1-2 of these Apollo 8's. It's a shame that they haven't been as well distributed elsewhere.

One question. It seems that Omega might be thinking on transitioning to the new Master Chronometer 3861 for the new Moon Watches, at least that’s what I have been reading in the forum. Do you think this might make this watch a little more desirable/ collectible?

I don't think that will make much of a difference even if it happens, the 1869 is different from both that and the 1861 due to its unusual decoration but the watch as a whole is a bit different and people either like it or hate it. I think the best comparison to this is the last low volume, relatively high cost 44.25mm manual wind which was the Aventurine.

Update: still love the watch, did a more exact measurement of how it's running, in 1 week it was fast by 23 seconds, or 3.3 second/day average

I still find it odd the seconds don't stop when adjusting the time, I remember this was something to check when spotting fakes (or is that just for automatic?) ... clearly I shouldn't have a fake, having ordered from omega directly... but it makes it hard to actually set the seconds exactly... is that just me ?

It is normal for the sub dial seconds hand to keep moving on a 1681 movement when pulling out the crown. If you adjust the time then hold the crown still or apply some "back pressure" whilst it is still out you should be able to hold the seconds hand in place or it may go back a few seconds. I have 6 speedmasters and the sensitivity and effectiveness of this varies on each one! It is a practiced art and part of the fun of having a manual wind movement......

I have a chance to get this watch at 10% off at my local AD... Question is, will it just be another original DSOTM that will just be had for like 40% off or even 20% in a few months?

I think the verdict is TBD. There are still not a lot of these out there even though it is not a limited edition. It is a unique piece that is polarizing for people. You either like the look, or you think it is too busy. I, for one, have yet to see it in the flesh. I know that my OB has sold two already.
